About The Position

Horizon Health is a Critical Access, Rural Health Facility comprised of 25-inpatient beds located in Paris, IL & a multitude of outpatient clinic settings including Family Practice and Specialty Clinics in Paris and surrounding cities. We have been serving residents of Edgar County since 1968 though community education, emergency services, and outpatient care. Position Summary: Performs advanced health information processing functions to support accurate charge capture, coding workflows, and timely billing. Works assigned HIM and revenue cycle work queues (“buckets”) to review medical record documentation for completeness, accuracy, and compliance prior to claim submission. Collaborates with providers, coding staff, and clinical departments to resolve documentation and charge-related issues that impact reimbursement and regulatory compliance. Reviews clinical documentation to ensure procedures, diagnoses, and services are supported, appropriately captured, and available for coding. Processes correspondence and documentation requests as they relate to revenue cycle workflows, ensuring information is indexed, scanned, and available within established turnaround times. Maintains accountability for assigned workloads, prioritizing tasks based on billing impact, regulatory requirements, and departmental performance metrics. The responsibilities listed above are not all-inclusive; other activities may be required in support of the hospital’s goals and objectives.

Requirements

  • Minimum: High school graduate or equivalent
  • Ability to act independently
  • Capable of using a telephone, computer, printer, copier, scanner, fax machine
  • Alpha-numerical skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication
  • Ability to work under pressure with time constraints

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes appropriate reference material to verify information regarding coding and health information issues. Demonstrates understanding and working knowledge of medical records, coding system, medical terminology, disease process, anatomy, physiology plus pharmacology
  • When required, files typed reports in correct area of the medical record.
  • Accurately gathers and compiles statistical and supporting data for regular and periodic reports.
  • Recognizes importance of medical record inquires and responds appropriately.
  • Works independently utilizing initiative and judgment in carrying out work in an accurate, complete manner and with attention to detail.
  • Demonstrates understanding and working knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, disease processes, diagnostic reports and pharmacology
  • Demonstrates awareness of numerical filing systems
  • Demonstrates a knowledge of Health Information guidelines and the laws and regulations governing HIM
  • Retrieves patient charts as requested by hospital staff or physicians
