About The Position

Assist the Manager of Health Information Management in maintaining an organized and efficient operating HIM Department. Supervises and coordinates the workflow of the satellite sites.

Requirements

  • Associates in Science or in Health Information Management preferred.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years experience working in a HIM Department with at least one (1) year supervising HIM staff preferred.
  • RHIT or RHIA certification desired.
  • Maintain current CPR certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Valid Florida Drivers License.
  • Candidate must be computer literate in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Type 30 wpm.
  • HIM experience to include working with an EHR, specifically Intergy i-EHR, and hybrid records, preferred.
  • Must posses excellent verbal and written skills, be organized, neat, and be able to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to draft policies/procedures and reports from different tools desired.
  • Able to travel between centers and cover sites if needed.
  • Knowledge of and some level of expertise in HIPAA Privacy and Security Regulations and resolving patient complaints and privacy breaches.
  • Familiarity with cultural competencies when interacting with patients of different ethnicities.
  • Knowledgeable of state and federal regulations regarding record retention, legal guardianship, and release of information (ROI).
  • Experienced in ROI oversight and vendor procurement.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently or as a team member.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors HIM activities at all Satellite sites and reports any problems and deficiencies HIM Manager.
  • Maintains all HIM departments at the Satellite sites clean, organized, and up to date on current HIM requirements.
  • Trains staff and continues to in-service staff on all HIM requirements and changes.
  • Monitors HIM work procedures and recommends improvements or changes to the HIM Manager.
  • Performs a random quantitative and qualitative analysis of records for completeness in accordance with CHI’s Policies and Procedures.
  • Monitors and assists in the archiving of medical records.
  • Participates in Performance Improvement analysis and provides monitors when needed.
  • Compiles monthly statistics and submits data to the HIM Manager by the end of the month.
  • Monitors and maintains office supplies as needed.
  • Coordinates the submission of all correspondence for medical record retrievals to the copy service on a timely basis.
  • Meets with HIM staff monthly and keeps them informed of any developments.
  • Performs and/or assists in special studies as required.
  • Assists physicians at Satellite Sites with peer review.
  • Assists CHI Staff Programs in maintaining quality standards as specified by Joint Commission.
  • Complies and assists all agencies requesting copies of medical records.
  • Adheres to standards of excellence at all times and provides guidance to staff so they may do also.
  • Establishes and maintains good communication and working relationship between departments and other supervisors.
  • Provides CHI patients and others with information about CHI privacy practices and responds to privacy related inquiries.
  • Demonstrates autonomy and critical thinking skills when supervising staff and performing routine HIM duties.
  • Serves as HIM designee in absence of the Manager.
  • Serves on committees/teams as assigned.
  • Follows chain of command when reporting issues, concerns, or updates.
  • Stays current on emerging trends and regulations affecting HIM and HIT.
  • Maintains credentials (when applicable).
  • Adheres to CHI’s Standards of Behavior.
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively.
  • Performs duties related to EHR maintenance such as random auditing, indexing and error correction(s).
  • Serves as ROI contact and completes HMO and agency request for records, including onsite audits.
  • Precepts and orients HIM students during practicum rotations.
  • Resourceful, dependable with strong attention to detail.
