On a daily basis the Floater assumes the responsibility of any task that needs to be done. This excludes the Coding Department. Hours and days fluctuate according to coverage needed.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalency
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Work under time constraints
  • Typing skills of 40-50 words per minute
  • One to two years’ experience in the Health Information Department
  • Ability to read and write in English.
  • Ability to communicate with patients, families, staff, physicians, support agencies, vendors, and others.
  • Ability to cope with and remain calm under stress and must be able to appropriately handle an irate person when the occasion arises (i.e., physician, hospital employee, patient).
  • Ability to respond to pages, telephones and other auditory stimulation.
  • Ability to evaluate and interpret information and make independent decisions
  • Bending, lifting, grasping, and moving 10 +/- lbs, pushing and pulling medical record documents.
  • Dexterity of upper extremities and fingers, as well as mental dexterity for accurately sorting medical record documents.
  • Ability to sit for prolong periods of time.
  • Ability to flex neck for sorting documents.
  • Strong concentration skills and ability to review images on a computer monitor that are stationary or in motion.
  • Must be able to read poorly handwritten communication.

Nice To Haves

  • Courses in medical terminology and other related medical record courses preferred

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates leadership in the provision of departmental services through a collaborative process designed to integrate services/functions throughout NWTHS.
  • Assumes responsibility and accountability for providing coverage in various staff positions for employees who are absent from the Health Information Department.
