About The Position

This posting is for High School Students in a CTE program who are attending an Application Session with an IU Health representative. The role provides a combination of direct patient care and unit clerical duties for the department, administering care to designated patients under the direction of a Clinical Nurse and supporting the patient care team. The Technician-Unit Support ensures a clean and orderly environment for the patient and provides information, directions, and other assistance to physicians, patients, families, customers, and vendors. Responsibilities may also include scheduling tests and procedures, maintaining patient records, signing patients in and out of the unit, and ordering, receiving, and delivering equipment and supplies. Continuous observation, including suicide prevention, may also be required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Current Basic Life Support certification through the AHA or attainment at the completion of the IU Health PCA education program
  • Previous comparable acute patient care experience or successful completion of the IU Health PCA education program
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology
  • Knowledge of procedures and standards related to patient care activities
  • Knowledge of principles of infection control
  • Basic computer skills

Nice To Haves

  • CPR (May be required)
  • Completion of Unit Secretary training program (May be required)
  • Other advanced life support certifications per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies (May be required)
