High School CTE - Technician-Unit Support - East Region
About The Position
This position is specifically for High School Students participating in a CTE program and is located in the East Region, including Ball and Jay Hospitals. The role involves a blend of direct patient care and clerical duties within the department. The Technician-Unit Support will administer care to designated patients under the guidance of a Clinical Nurse and provide essential support to the patient care team. Key responsibilities include maintaining a clean and orderly patient environment, assisting physicians, patients, families, customers, and vendors with information and directions. The role may also encompass scheduling tests and procedures, managing patient records, signing patients in and out, and handling the ordering, receiving, and delivery of equipment and supplies. Continuous observation, including for suicide prevention, may also be required.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED is required
- CPR May be required to complete Unit Secretary training program
- Requires previous comparable acute patient care experience or successful completion of the IU Health PCA education program
- Requires current Basic Life Support certification through the AHA or attainment at the completion of the IU Health PCA education program
- Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies
- Requires basic knowledge of medical terminology
- Requires knowledge of procedures and standards related to patient care activities
- Requires knowledge of principles of infection control
- Requires basic computer skills
Responsibilities
- Provides a combination of direct patient care and unit clerical duties for the department

- Provides information, directions and other assistance to physicians, patients, families, customers and vendors
- May schedule tests and procedures for the patient
- May maintain patient records
- May sign patients in and out of the unit
- May be responsible for the ordering, receiving and delivering of equipment and supplies for the patient care team
- May be required to provide continuous observation including suicide prevention
