About The Position

This posting is for High School Students participating in a Career and Technical Education (CTE) program. Applicants must be attending an Application Session with an IU Health representative. The role involves responding in an emergency medical vehicle to various situations including reported emergencies, nonemergencies, and interhospital transports across the Metro Region. The EMT provides efficient and immediate basic life support care to patients at the scene, enroute to, and within the hospital. This includes performing non-invasive procedures and basic life support functions such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), automated external defibrillation (AED), and bone splinting. The position also involves performing specialized life-sustaining procedures within a hospital-based advanced care ambulance service and is responsible for the immediate emergency care and transport of critically ill or injured individuals.

Requirements

  • Indiana Certification as an Emergency Medical Technician issued by the Indiana Department of Homeland Security required, or must be nationally certified and able to obtain the Indiana EMT Certification within 30 days of start of employment
  • Basic Life Support certification through the America Heart Association required
  • Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies
  • Requires Indiana State drivers license

Responsibilities
