About The Position

Des Moines Public Schools is seeking Building Guest Educators for our high need schools for 2025-2026 School Year. Locations: Preschool: Mitchell (1) Float Pre K (2) Elementary: Brubaker (1), King (1), Studebaker (3) Cattell (2), Carver (1), Jackson (2), Pleasant Hill (1), Willard (1), Park Ave (2) Hillis (1) Middle: Goodrell (3), Hiatt (1), Hoyt (2), Weeks (2), Meredith (1) Brody (1) Special Programs: Ruby Van Meter (2) Job Summary: Implements Board Policy regarding education philosophy/curriculum under the direction of the administration through planning, organizing, managing, interacting with students; establish rapport with students, staff, parents, and community. Successful candidates for this position will possess 1 of the following: Valid Iowa Teaching License Substitute Authorization Certificate Pay Starting: $200/day Additional Benefit: 1 personal day Individuals considered for this position will need to commit to working a minimum of 4 days per week. Requirements

  • Valid Iowa Teaching License
  • Substitute Authorization Certificate
  • Individuals considered for this position will need to commit to working a minimum of 4 days per week.

Responsibilities

  • Plans instructional objectives and activities consistent with curriculum guides.
  • Directs and supervises learning activities.
  • Implements the disciplinary procedures of the District.
  • Supervises behavior in the school environment to maintain the safety and wellbeing of the students and staff.
  • Keeps accurate records of attendance, absences.
  • Utilizes a variety of analytical and evaluative techniques suitable to the curriculum content.
  • Communicates a positive support of the students in their educational development.
  • Recognizes the exemplary influence of the educator over the students.
  • Supervises playground, cafeteria, and halls on a scheduled basis.
  • Relates with staff, parents and community through positive professional cooperation.
  • Remains current with developments and contemporary interpretations of subject matter and teaching methodology consistent with the professional assignment.
  • Assumes responsibility periodically for conferences with parents.
  • Performs other duties within the scope of employment and certification as assigned by the appropriate administrator.
  • Issues grade reports on a periodic basis.
  • Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees.
  • Assist with other duties as may be assigned.
