Building Substitute Teacher About Us Guadalupe Centers Charter Schools (GCCS) serves 1,600 students from PreK–12 and is a free, open-enrollment public charter school. Over 92% of our students are Latinx. Our school system includes Guadalupe Centers High School, Guadalupe Centers Middle School, and Guadalupe Centers Elementary School. GCCS grew out of Guadalupe Centers’ educational programming, and as the longest continuously operating agency serving the Latinx community in the U.S. since 1919, our roots in the community run deep. Position Summary The Building Substitute Teacher serves in a temporary or long-term instructional role within GCCS buildings. This position requires enthusiasm for supporting students’ academic and social growth while maintaining the established instructional delivery and expectations of the assigned classroom. Reports To: Building Principal

Requirements

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Professionalism and tact in high-stress situations.
  • Commitment to working with underserved student populations.
  • Meets Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) requirements for a Substitute Teacher Certificate.
  • Valid Missouri Substitute Teacher Certificate, or provisional approval by the Superintendent/designee.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in urban school settings preferred.
  • Bilingual skills preferred (English required; Spanish strongly preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Create a safe, positive, and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Deliver instructional activities aligned with established curriculum and school goals.
  • Implement ESL strategies and scaffolding across WIDA levels to support English Language Learners (listening, reading, speaking, and writing).
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning styles, backgrounds, and student needs (including IEP/504 requirements).
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, progress, and required documentation.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure continuity of instruction.
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, colleagues, and community members.
  • Serve as a professional role model, demonstrating ethical standards.
  • Assess student progress toward learning objectives and provide timely feedback.
  • Uphold professional obligations, efficient work habits, and assigned responsibilities.
  • Manage student behavior to maintain a safe learning environment.
  • Respond to emergencies to resolve immediate safety concerns.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
