Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • 5 years of experience in health, safety, and environmental roles within a manufacturing environment, including supervisory or leadership experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations, environmental compliance requirements, and HSE management systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in hazard identification, risk assessment, incident investigation, and corrective action management.
  • Proven ability to supervise, coach, and develop HSE staff.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and HSE reporting and management systems.
  • Ability to interact effectively with regulatory agencies, emergency responders, and all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and provide direction to the Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Coordinator, ensuring effective execution of occupational health, safety, and environmental programs.
  • Lead the development, implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of Occupational Health, Safety, and Environmental management systems in accordance with OSHA, environmental regulations, and Magna corporate standards.
  • Ensure full compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, and corporate health, safety, and environmental legislation, standards, permits, and best practices.
  • Design, plan, and oversee programs and initiatives for the prevention, control, and remediation of health, safety, and environmental hazards within the facility.
  • Review and approve job safety analyses, ergonomic assessments, physical demand evaluations, and risk assessments to ensure effectiveness and regulatory compliance.
  • Oversee workplace inspections, audits, and monitoring activities; evaluate findings and ensure timely completion of corrective actions.
  • Provide leadership and guidance for accident, near-miss, environmental incident, and property damage investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective action development.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of required regulatory reporting, including OSHA logs, environmental reporting, and other mandated submissions.
  • Lead and support Joint Health and Safety Committee activities and provide management representation as required.
  • Oversee safety training programs, including new hire orientation and ongoing employee training, ensuring content effectiveness and compliance.
  • Coordinate and support emergency preparedness and response programs, including interaction with local emergency services and regulatory agencies.
  • Participate in internal and external HSE audits and ensure effective management of findings and corrective actions through systems such as HSELinx.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and emerging risks; provide strategic recommendations to plant leadership to improve compliance and reduce risk.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture and ensure adherence to all plant safety policies and procedures.
