About The Position

Health Promoter – Substance Use Prevention Team Health Services – Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention Status: (1) Contract Full Time (Duration: 13 months) Salary Range: $81,977 - $102,471 per annum (plus comprehensive benefits) Hiring Range: $81,977 - $92,224 Work mode: Hybrid see below for more details about this work mode Location: 7120 Hurontario St., Mississauga, ON Hours of work: 35 hour/week The Substance Use Prevention Team of the Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention Division is responsible for delivering programs and services that create and support healthy behaviours and environments for Region of Peel residents. We are seeking a self-directed, persuasive and professional health promoter with experience and skill to plan, promote, develop, implement and evaluate health promotion policies, practices and programs with a particular focus on implementation of the Peel Substance Strategy. What you will do in this role: Plan, support, develop, implement and evaluate health promotion programs, policies and strategies Interpret and analyze information to provide program-related recommendations Participate in research projects including team, sectional or divisional projects Conduct community needs assessments and situational assessments Prepare detailed documentation, reports, briefing notes, scoping reviews and statistical analyses Develop written and visual communication products such as for social media, websites and presentations Transfer or seek to transfer public health knowledge and skill Develop and maintain cooperative and collaborative relationships with internal and external partners Work to facilitate community mobilization and/or strengthen community capacities to take action on and improve health issues Apply health promotion knowledge and knowledge of public health sciences including population health, social determinants of health, epidemiology and applicable legislation Ensure that issues of diversity, ethnicity, language and culture are reflected in health promotion planning and programs

Requirements

  • A satisfactory Level 1 Criminal Record Check obtained directly from a police station (third-party background checks will not be accepted)
  • University degree in a relevant health-related field
  • Minimum 1-year related experience in program planning, development, implementation and evaluation
  • Background and understanding of research methods, policy development, analysis and critical appraisal including awareness of evidence-informed decision making
  • Knowledge of public health sciences including population health, social determinants of health, epidemiology, and applicable legislation
  • Competence in Windows, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook programs
  • Apply knowledge regarding concepts of population health, health equity, social determinants of health, and strategies for health promotion to guide practice
  • Utilize research and evidence, applying critical appraisal skills and evidence-informed decision making, to inform policies, programs and practice
  • Collaborate with partners in the development of program planning, strategy implementation and evaluation of initiatives and materials
  • Collaborate to identify and address barriers to health behaviour change in order to achieve improved health outcomes, maintaining networks through various community contacts
  • Well-developed and proven written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret and apply data
  • Demonstrated facilitation, partnership/collaboration, project management, planning, problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Work in a self-directed manner within a collaborative multidisciplinary environment to design and deliver programming
