About The Position

Putnam County Hospital is looking for a Health Information Specialist to join our team! This is a full-time, benefits eligible position. Hours are Monday- Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Requirements

  • Education: HS Graduate or Equivalent
  • Years of Experience: 1-2 years
  • Age: 18+
  • Proficient in Excel
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Familiarity with medical terminology & HIPAA regulations
  • Basic computer skills to scan, organize, and access electronic health records
  • Good time management skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Self motivation
  • Must be able to multi-task effectively
  • An understanding of HIPAA rules and regulations
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Works well in team environment

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for collecting and scanning/saving records into the proper patient charts, answering patient/other care facility requests
  • Run daily reports and track/send statistical data
  • Communication with providers/nurses on work that needs completed
  • Chart analysis and track physician/nurse deficiencies
  • Answer incoming calls/faxes
  • Greet guests coming into office
  • Track death registries
  • Communication with 3rd party record release company
  • Attend meetings as requested
  • Performs other duties as assigned
