About The Position

The Opportunity: Engagement and Outreach Internship College to County Intern 2026 Health Department Pay Rate: $24 per hour Job Type: Temporary College Intern Duration: Summer 2026 - 12 weeks - June 2-Aug 29, 2025 Hours: 32-40 hours a week Telework: Hybrid (Tuesdays in the office) Physical Location: Gateway, 2nd Floor, 10317 E Burnside St Portland, OR 97216 This position prefers the intern to travel via car TriMet Passes are available if transportation to County facilities is required. Eligibility requirements and more details found on our College to County website. What Does the Student Health Center (SHC) Program Do? The Student Health Center (SHC) program operates clinics in nine high schools in five school districts in Multnomah County. We facilitate access to comprehensive preventive, primary, behavioral and mental health care for school-age youth (ages 5-18) who live or go to school in Multnomah County. We work with school and community partners to promote whole community, whole school, and whole child health, and we strive to empower youth voice through Student Health Action Councils at our high school SHC sites. This internship will support communications and marketing for the School and Community Engagement (SCE) Team, which provides important information about our clinics and health resources to increase utilization of our services among families and participating school districts.The intern will be under the direction of the Student Health Center Communications Coordinator and work closely with the School and Engagement Team during thesummer.

Requirements

  • Enrolled or plan to enroll in a graduate or undergraduate degree program in a relevant field (e.g. public health and/or health communications.)
  • Strong external and internal written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a diverse team
  • Ability to take initiative and proactively suggest ideas to move work forward
  • Interest in and ability to learn beginning graphic design
  • Ability to commit to 32-40 hours per week
  • Finalists must pass a background check

  • Candidates with professional and/or lived experience with diverse, marginalized communities preferred
  • Access to personal vehicle is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Create and distribute content and graphics for flyers, infographics, social media and our website
  • Assist with and facilitate middle and elementary school outreach and engagement that increases school and family utilization of our services
  • Attend meetings with SCE team, assist with understanding deliverables and implementing them
  • Assist with ordering and distributing swag to clinics and teams to use at community events
  • Perform other administrative tasks and help organize and maintain supplies and equipment
