About The Position

We are currently recruiting for a Health Care Technician II to function as a Therapeutic Support Specialist II (TSS II) at Central Regional Hospital on our Community Transition Unit (CTU). CTU patient population consists of adults ages 18-64, diagnosed with a severe and persistent mental illness. Patients are typically transferred for long term treatment of their mental illness after repeated admissions. Many are homeless and have no source of income and housing; lacking a support system at home and in the community; and have inadequate coping and problem-solving skills. The primary purpose of the Therapeutic Support Specialist II is to mentor the TSS I personnel on B1 Community Transitioning Unit. The TSS II will also perform all the tasks, duties and responsibilities of lower level TSS (I) as required in patient care. This role functions within the scope of a Certified Nursing Assistant – all duties are delegated by and completed under the supervision of a Licensed Registered Nurse. If you are not currently certified as a nursing assistant, training will be offered.

Requirements

  • High school or General Educational Development diploma and one year of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Listing as a Nurse Aide I by the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation (If applicants are not NA I certified and are selected for a position, training will be offered by the hospital. However, certification must be obtained, and employee must pass all facility required training as a condition of employment).
  • Advanced Physical Skills (APS) certification through the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) and CPR certification within 60 days
  • Valid driver's license
  • This position is designated as mandatory and must report or stay over during adverse weather events.

  • Nurse Aide I listing by the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of a certified nursing assistant (including bio-statistical data such as vital signs, lab work and specimen collections)
  • Knowledge of patient interactions involving behavioral, physical and medical interventions (within scope)
  • Ability to work with behaviorally difficult patients while maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment
