About The Position

This position advances multi-level health promotion strategies by coordinating community-based health coalitions, aligning partners, and working directly with community organizations and settings to promote health-supportive policies, systems, and environments. Health & Well-Being educators conduct local situational analyses and use experience in program development, implementation, and evaluation to deliver responsive, community-driven programming. The position collaborates with local agencies, schools, food systems partners, coalitions, and community residents to reduce silos, elevate resident voice, and strengthen community health and well-being, while supporting mental health, reducing suicide risk, preventing substance misuse and, supporting service professionals, and addressing root causes of health. Initial efforts will focus on implementing integrated health and well-being programming—including nutrition, physical activity, and mental and behavioral health—across communities, schools, and coalitions, while expanding community partnerships. This work will also include exploring the StrongBodies program, engaging health volunteers, and conducting situational health analyses to identify mental and physical health priorities and support health programming in community settings. The main office for this position is located in Brown County, WI and the primary programming focus is Brown County; however, some programming may also be conducted over a broader geographical area. It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. This position may be required to work occasional nights and weekends to meet the program needs and priorities of the communities served. It is expected that employees will make individual arrangements for transportation adequate to meet position responsibilities and essential job functions.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience in the area of community health programming
  • Ability to communicate effectively using a variety of methods and technology
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other agencies, community-based services, or organizations to address mental and physical health
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work with people from a wide range of backgrounds and perspectives
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to build and maintain professional work environment
  • Experience managing multiple tasks, timelines, and schedules while maintaining high-quality work
  • Knowledge of local/community needs, resources, and partners
  • Experience implementing health education in communities and/or schools
  • Experience with implementation of comprehensive community based health programs that include systems approaches to health
  • Have a valid drivers license and a reliable source of independent transportation for periodic in-state work travel, and/or comply with requirements for UW-Madison vehicle use authorization.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds in educational equipment

Responsibilities

  • Delivers outreach program content and materials to community members
  • Identifies, promotes, and maintains external partnerships to support the outreach program
  • Communicate plans, activities and achievements to Area Extension Director, Program Managers, partners and relevant stakeholders
  • Develops and evaluates curriculum and programs and provides recommendations for improvement
  • Schedules and secures resources and communicates logistics in support of an outreach program
  • Leads the implementation of programs, policies, and procedures through oversight of day-to-day activities for program staff and student and community volunteers
  • Researches, develops, and facilitates outreach program content and materials
