About The Position

The Head Swim Team Coach is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, and overseeing all aspects of the HVCC Swim and Dive Team during the season (May–August). This position leads daily practices, manages assistant coaching staff, coordinates swim meets, attends league meetings, and provides instruction and development for swimmers. The Head Coach works closely with the Pool Management Team to ensure pool rules are followed, maintain accurate team records and reports, and ensure all water safety, health, and operational standards are met.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Current Lifeguard Training (LGT)
  • First Aid Certification
  • CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation)
  • AED (Automated External Defibrillator)
  • Stand for extended periods of time while on the pool deck
  • Use hands and arms to handle equipment
  • Communicate clearly with swimmers, staff, and members
  • Walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Lift and/or move: Up to 25 lbs regularly, Up to 50 lbs frequently, Up to 75 lbs occasionally
  • Vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong swimming knowledge, coaching ability, and experience working with amateur or youth swimmers are preferred.
  • One to three years of related coaching, aquatic instruction, or swim program experience preferred.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Knowledge of aquatics programming and pool facility operations is preferred.
  • Water Safety Instructor (WSI)
  • Certified Pool & Spa Operator (CPO) and/or Aquatic Facilities Operator (AFO)

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and lead swim and dive team practices, competitions, and seasonal programming.
  • Supervise swimmers during practices, meets, and other scheduled swim team activities.
  • Arrive on deck prior to practices to greet swimmers and communicate with parents.
  • Instruct and develop swimmers in competitive swimming techniques and sportsmanship.
  • Work with assistant coaches on time management, practice structure, swimmer development, and coaching techniques.
  • Maintain records of swimmers’ meet results and performance progress.
  • Conduct oneself in a professional, friendly, energetic, courteous, and diplomatic manner.
  • Organize and manage swim meets, including scheduling, equipment setup/takedown, and coordination of volunteers for home meets.
  • Attend and participate in league and coaches’ meetings.
  • Represent the organization at swim and dive meets, league functions, and community events as required.
  • Coordinate team equipment needs, uniform orders, and operational logistics for the season.
  • Communicate effectively with the Food & Beverage team, Pool Manager, assistant coaches, swimmers, and members regarding practices, meets, emergencies, and team updates.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports related to swimmers, meets, and team operations.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment.
  • Follow all organizational policies, procedures, and employee handbook guidelines.
  • Coordinate with the Pool Manager regarding facility scheduling, operations, and safety procedures.
  • Report maintenance issues or irregularities to the Pool Manager or Building Maintenance.
  • Monitor pool conditions including chemistry, climate control, cleanliness, and equipment safety.
  • Develop and follow injury response protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Assist with supervision of lifeguards and other aquatic personnel if necessary.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain aquatic programming for the swim team.
  • Order and manage swim team equipment and supplies as approved.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of swim team equipment.
  • Participate in and assist with aquatic safety and certification training sessions as needed.
  • Attend required meetings and certifications to maintain compliance with Utah Swim regulations.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
