As a Manager of External Business Communications within PNC's Marketing and Communications organization, you will be based in Pittsburgh, PA and manage a team comprised of external communicators and content creators. The Head of External Business Communications for PNC is a highly motivated leader, an effective player coach, and a seasoned communications strategist with strong executive presence. This role requires expertise across all facets of external communications, including media relations, reputation management, executive visibility, crisis and issues management, thought leadership, and integrated brand storytelling. Extensive experience leading large-scale, proactive earned media and external communications programs for complex, highly regulated organizations is required. Prior experience in financial services or financial communications is strongly preferred. The leader in this role will be charged with the development and execution of external communications strategies that support and enhance the reputation of PNC and drive awareness and consideration across all lines of business (AMG, C&IB and Retail). The leader in this role will be charged with the development and execution of communications strategies aimed at: • Positioning PNC as a top national coast-to-coast franchise and each of its business lines as leading national brands • Driving executive thought leadership that positions business leads and other PNC branded spokespeople as key industry influencers • Creating relevant, value-add thought leadership content delivered through high-impact media and other external channels to drive awareness and consideration in the marketplace. Requirements

  • Roles at this level typically require a university / college degree.
  • Higher level education such as a Masters degree, PhD, or certifications is desirable.
  • Industry-relevant experience is typically 8+ years.
  • At least 5 years of prior management experience is typically required.
  • Proven leadership experience with a moderate to large scope of responsibility is required.
  • In lieu of a degree, a comparable combination of education, job specific certification(s), and experience (including military service) may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes the strategic direction of the team. Responsible for the team's development and execution of all communications strategies to advance business priorities.
  • Establishes and leads overall communication strategies; oversees the planning, research, and development of content for complex communication initiatives. Develops and implements measurement approach to determine the impact of communications plans and strategies.
  • Leads in the resolution of issues. Develops and maintains client relationships with executives and all levels of management, providing counsel on all aspects of communications. Engages other parts of the organization to ensure strategic alignment, clarity, and accuracy of message.
  • Directs, leads, and holds the team accountable for business analytics, reporting, and accountability framework to drive results and achieve successful integration of marketing and business strategies in support of business programs/initiatives.
  • Responsible for performance management, continuous coaching and development of employees to ensure that they can achieve business results and adapt to evolving business strategies and financial industry changes.
