About The Position

Rawson Group are searching for a senior leader to join us as the Head of Estimating. Where you will lead the strategic direction, governance and performance of the estimating function across Rawson Group. This is a senior leadership opportunity to shape the future of estimating at Rawson Group and influence outcomes at both operational and strategic levels. Reporting to the General Manager, Operations, this role is responsible for building a best‑in-class capability that strengthens commercial outcomes, supports margin discipline, improves operational efficiency and enables scalable growth. You’ll provide leadership across our Sales, Production, Masters Estimating & Cost Planning divisions, ensuring consistent methodology, accurate data, aligned systems and processes across the business.
A key focus of the role is establishing a high‑performing estimating operating model that embeds continuous improvement and lifts the maturity of the function. You’ll drive collaboration across internal teams and external partners, ensuring the estimating function is tightly integrated with broader business objectives and project delivery requirements.

Requirements

• Senior leadership experience in estimating, cost planning, or related disciplines.
• Proven ability to design and implement high-level operating models and process frameworks.
• Strong commercial acumen with demonstrated success in margin management and cost governance.
• Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams and driving organisational change.
• Advanced stakeholder management and executive communication capability.
• Experience working with offshore or external delivery models.
• High level communication, influencing and negotiation skills in stakeholder management to achieve positive outcomes.
• Ability to work under pressure, resilience and “drive” to succeed when faced with obstacles.
• Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills with the ability to translate data into commercial insight Work as part of a broader team.
• Proven and strong experience with liaising with senior stakeholders of an organisation.
• Ability to analyse and resolve complex problems which may require the involvement of multiple parties.

Nice To Haves

• RICS (Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors) is desirable.
• AIQS (Certified Quantity Surveyor or equivalent) is desirable.
• Postgraduate qualification in Business, Project Management, Construction Economics, or MBA (not-essential).

Responsibilities

• Define and execute the Group’s estimating strategy aligned to Rawson’s commercial, operational, and growth objectives.
• Establish a long-term vision for the estimating function, transitioning from transactional estimating to a strategic commercial capability.
• Develop and implement a best-practice estimating framework across sales, production, and cost planning.
• Embed an Ideal Operating Model (IOM) for estimating, including structure, capability, capacity, systems, and governance.
• Lead and integrate the sales estimating, production estimating, cost planning, and masters & systems teams to operate as a cohesive, high-performing function.
• Build leadership capability & oversee workload planning within the estimating leadership team through coaching, mentoring, and performance management.
• Establish and maintain margin governance frameworks across sales and production estimating.
• Provide oversight of estimating assumptions, contingencies, risk allowances, and commercial levers.
• Build strong relationships with external consultants and offshore partners to enhance capability and performance.
• Develop and implement a comprehensive reporting framework for estimating performance, productivity, accuracy, and margin outcomes.
