About The Position

About This Role: As the Head of Commercial & Medical Field Excellence, you will lead multiple teams dedicated to the strategic alignment, planning, training, and measurement of excellence across Biogen's Commercial and Medical field teams. Your role is crucial in overseeing standards, frameworks, and systems that drive daily operations and the conduct of Biogen’s business. You will be accountable to enhance the effectiveness of over 800 field employees across diverse therapeutic areas, including Neurology, SMA, Alzheimer’s, MA&R, and medical fields. By partnering with Therapeutic Area Heads and Medical Affairs leadership, you will drive field effectiveness, ensuring operational rigor and integration with Biogen’s commercial priorities. Your leadership in Commercial Learning & Development and other areas will embed growth and execution effectiveness as a core strategic pillar, maintaining Biogen’s field force as a competitive advantage and key driver of revenue growth. This role reports directly to the Head of Business Intelligence & Operations (BIO) and collaborates closely with senior leaders across Biogen’s North American portfolio. What You’ll Do: Drive field team effectiveness by setting strategy, direction, and operational frameworks for Commercial and Medical field forces. Lead Commercial Learning & Development, designing and implementing onboarding, ongoing training, leadership development, and curricula aligned with therapeutic area and brand strategies. Define sales strategy integration and partner with senior Commercial leaders to ensure call planning, targeting, and field resource deployment align with business priorities. Oversee field operations excellence including HCP call plan design, field technology platforms, incentive compensation design, and awards & recognition programs. Establish Medical Field metrics and dashboards in partnership with Medical Affairs leadership. Own field execution analytics & reporting, leading the design of dashboards and executive-level reporting of field effectiveness. Lead strategic planning for field enablement platforms ensuring scalability, compliance, and innovation. Manage IC budgets and provide leadership decision support on plan adjustments. Represent US BIO perspective in leadership forums and serve as the primary point of contact bridging Commercial, Medical, and enabling functions. Drive cross-functional transformation initiatives and coach and develop talent within Field Ops and Commercial Learning organizations. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree; advanced degree (MBA, MS, or relevant scientific/business discipline) highly preferred.
  • Minimum of 14 years of progressive experience in bio/pharmaceutical commercial operations, sales excellence, or analytics, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong preference for prior leadership of Operations, Field Excellence, or Commercial Learning organizations.
  • Deep understanding of pharmaceutical/biotech commercial strategy drivers, field execution standards, and compliance/firewalling requirements.
  • Proven expertise in CRM/SFA platforms (Veeva strongly preferred), sales reporting, and analytics.
  • Demonstrated leadership in sales incentive compensation design and performance tracking.
  • Experience leading Commercial Learning & Development functions.
