About The Position

The Head Lifeguard is responsible for overseeing daily aquatic operations, ensuring the safety of all patrons and staff, and supporting the Aquatics Division in maintaining a high standard of professionalism, customer service, and facility readiness. This position provides leadership to Lifeguards, assists with staff coordination, and ensures compliance with all City of Hialeah policies, aquatic safety standards, and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Previous experience as a Lifeguard or in aquatic operations required.
  • Current Lifeguard Certification, CPR/AED, and First Aid certification required.
  • Knowledge of aquatic safety procedures, rescue techniques, and emergency response protocols.
  • Ability to lead, communicate effectively, and make sound decisions in emergency situations.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • 20/40 uncorrected vision in each eye.
  • Hearing must be within normal range to be able to hear adults and children in life and/or health and safety endangering situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and lead Lifeguards during daily pool operations, ensuring proper coverage and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Monitor aquatic activities to ensure the safety of patrons and staff and respond promptly to emergencies, performing rescues and administering first aid or CPR as needed.
  • Enforce pool rules, regulations, and safety procedures in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Assist with scheduling, training, and onboarding of Lifeguard staff.
  • Conduct routine safety checks of pool facilities, equipment, and surrounding areas to ensure cleanliness and operational readiness.
  • Serve as the point of contact during assigned shifts and report incidents, injuries, or maintenance issues to the Aquatics Supervisor or Pool Manager.
  • Support the implementation of aquatic programs, special events, and swim activities.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal aquatic safety regulations, including health department standards.
  • Model excellent customer service and professionalism when interacting with patrons, staff, and the public.
  • Maintain accurate records, including incident reports, attendance logs, and daily operational checklists.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
