About The Position

The Head Coach for Girls Basketball at WJHS for the 2026-2027 school year will be responsible for leading the secondary school interscholastic athletic program. This role involves promoting the sport within the school and community, planning and supervising practices, and teaching fundamental skills, team play, strategy, and rules. The coach is also expected to instill good sportsmanship and self-control in student-athletes, ensure their eligibility and safety, and provide a positive role model and guidance. Additionally, the coach will conduct learning experiences for small groups and recommend necessary equipment and supplies.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of fundamentals of various sports.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations.
  • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
  • Ability to assist coaches on one or more sports.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Ability to read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. Certificate.
  • A minimum of 64 semester hours from an accredited college or university.
  • One year of experience coaching in a school athletic program.
  • Proof of Adult CPR/First Aid/ AED Certification.
  • NFHS Coaching Principles Certification.
  • KRS 160.445– Heat Related Emergency Training.
  • Official transcripts and diplomas.
  • Coaches Code of Ethics Form.
  • Current W4 Form.
  • Current Medical Exam with TB test.
  • Criminal records check.
  • Copy of driver’s license and Social Security Card, verifying minimum age of 21 years old.
  • Concussion training.
  • Application.
  • Physical Restraint & Seclusion Training.
  • Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention Training.
  • KMA/KHSAA Sports Safety Course.
  • KHSAA Sport Specific Rules Clinic.

Responsibilities

  • Promote sports in the schools and community.
  • Plan the assigned athletic program.
  • Organize and supervise practices.
  • Teach individual fundamental skills, team play, team strategy and rules and regulations of the game.
  • Teach good sportsmanship and self-control.
  • Check eligibility of participants, including insurance coverage and parent consent.
  • Provide students a proper role model, emotional support, patience, a friendly attitude and general guidance.
  • Conduct learning experiences, with small groups of student athletes.
  • Recommend the purchase of equipment, supplies and uniforms as appropriate for the health, safety and welfare of students athletes.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
