About The Position

Role Purpose Oversee and manage an effective financial control function for the product platforms by implementing professional and ethical financial control practices and services that support strategic financial planning, business decision making and performance.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years’ experience within Financial Control
  • At least 5 years’ experience managing a financial team
  • At least 5 years’ financial services industry experience, with a good understanding of the retail life insurance business
  • Experience in an Agile, Digital or Data transformation environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in commerce, with specialisation in Financial Management, Internal Audit and/or equivalent relevant qualification
  • Relevant post graduate qualification
  • Qualified CA(SA)
  • SAICA membership
  • Knowledge of the insurance and investment industry and applicable regulatory requirements and legislations.
  • Knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and risk management principles.
  • Awareness of current and emerging technologies
  • Understanding of digital transformation initiatives and how to integrate new technologies into existing business processes
  • Analytical approach / good problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to be flexible with position duties and scope of work
  • Ability to generate team cooperation.
  • Strong process knowledge.
  • Able to work on own initiative and prioritize workload effectively.
  • Ability to build productive working relationships – internally and externally
  • Strong interpersonal/ business skills and time management skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

  • Experience in delivering a large-scale system migration (desirable)

Responsibilities

  • Plan and manage the Financial Control functional strategy and operating model
  • Establishing guardianship in respect of reviewing, training, promoting, and facilitating improvements and maintaining relentless adherence to administrative / financial control functions, policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Maintain finance governance principles and structures in line with finance best practice (IFRS etc.).
  • Drive the development and implementation of tools that allow for increased, efficient analytical capabilities that enable business leaders to understand key financial issues in a timely and effective manner.
  • Partner with business leaders to assess the financial implications of business initiatives and provide input to the financial feasibility of business cases.
  • Keep abreast of trends, legislation and best practices within the financial control and management field to optimise service offering and delivery.
  • Provide business leaders with insight regarding the interpretation and explanation of financial analysis, forecasts, and scenarios to guide business decision making.
  • Oversee the delivery of accurate and timeous reporting (including KPI and operational reports), analysis and insights.
  • Review consolidated reports to ensure that the information is appropriate and accurate.
  • Contribute to the audit process and resolve any audit queries within deadlines.
  • Build and maintain effective business client relationships for successful service delivery in line with business expectations and requirements.
