About The Position

The Head Men’s Basketball Coach reports to the Director of Athletics and provides strategic leadership, administration, and oversight of the Men’s Basketball program. As a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (Division II) and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, Westminster University seeks a dynamic leader committed to competitive excellence, student-athlete development, and full compliance with institutional and governing regulations. Responsibilities include recruiting and retaining qualified student-athletes, supervising assistant coaches, managing budgets and team operations, organizing practices and competition, and supporting fundraising and outreach efforts. The Head Coach is committed to student-athlete development, academic success, and fostering athletics as an integral part of the University’s educational mission. The role requires strict adherence to all institutional, conference, and NCAA regulations, participation in compliance trainings, and a demonstrated commitment to ethical conduct and the University’s mission.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Demonstrate a record of success in coaching basketball and recruiting student athletes at the collegiate level preferred.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Effective motivational skills.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and public relation communication skills.
  • Ability to create a positive atmosphere conducive to learning.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment with high standards and goals.
  • Commitment to high academic and professional standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree.
  • Periodic overnight travel may be required.
  • Regular travel throughout the year and/or at specified times of the year will be required.
  • Extended hours, including evenings and weekends will be required.
  • Ability to respond to on-call as assigned, including evenings and weekends is required.
  • Valid driver’s license and successful DMV check required.
  • Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch required.
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds is required.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds required.

Responsibilities

  • Recruitment and retention of qualified student athletes.
  • Supervise and hire assistant(s).
  • Budgeting, scheduling, and travel arrangements.
  • Organize and supervise practices.
  • Event management assistance.
  • Order and maintain all equipment.
  • Compliance with institutional, conference and national governing regulations.
  • Assist with fundraising and outreach efforts for program.
  • Student-athlete mentoring and welfare.
  • Work closely with other staff to promote intercollegiate athletics as an integral part of the University learning environment and support the academic success of student-athletes.
  • Perform all responsibilities with the highest ethical standards consistent with the University’s mission, vision and values which include diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Perform other duties as assigned
