About The Position

Drives truck with capacity of more than 3 tons to transport hazmat and other materials to and from specified destinations, by performing the following duties. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Drive to destination in accordance with all federal, state and local laws and regulations. Maintains truck logs, according to state and federal regulations. Shifting manual transmissions and operating foot pedals. Maintains telephone or radio contact with supervisor to receive delivery instructions. Loads and unloads truck. Cleans compartment after unloading as necessary to avoid contamination. Inspects truck equipment and supplies such as tires, lights, brakes, gas, oil, and water. Performs routine maintenance on vehicle, including but not limited to, daily pre and post trip inspections. Assist location with operational duties, as time allows, ensuring an efficient production schedule. Ensure trucks promote a positive image of Heartland Co-op by keeping the interiors and exteriors clean as conditions allow. Drive and deliver products during various types of weather, which may cause road surfaces to be wet and slippery and involve temperature extremes. Flexibility to work various shifts, extra shifts and hours to insure seasonal business needs are met, this may include seven days a week during seasonal demand and may include out of state travel. Maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License with hazmat and tanker endorsements and commercial insurability at all times. Meeting all medical/licensing standards as established by the Department of Transportation (DOT). Other duties as assigned by management. The employee will be around hazardous materials. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Lift Level: Heavy Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License with hazmat and tanker endorsements and commercial insurability at all times.
  • Valid DOT physical is also required.
