About The Position

Incorporated in 1955 and encompassing more than 454 acres, the Mt. Prospect Park District provides outstanding recreational programs, events, parks, facilities and services. With seven primary facilities and 27 neighborhood parks, the Park District is an integral part of a thriving multi-generational community. District open space includes two outdoor pools, biking and walking paths, a dog park and sizable space for outdoor athletic programming. The District covers over 11 square miles and serves a region of over a quarter million residents in Mount Prospect and surrounding communities. We have an opening for a part-time Guest Services Representative for the RecPlex facility. The Guest Services Representative is responsible for assisting in the daily operation of RecPlex Facility under the direct supervision of the Center Director on duty or the Facility Manager. Scope of work includes greeting and welcoming guests in person and on the phone, answering phone calls, processing registration, collection of fees and answering diverse informational questions. The Guest Services Representative must be at least 18 years old and be able to successfully pass a criminal background check. The starting pay for the Guest Services Representative is $15 per hour. Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must be computer proficient.
  • Must be customer service oriented, have a pleasant demeanor and cooperative attitude. Must be able to handle business for the public in a professional manner.
  • Must be flexible and be able to handle more than one task/assignment at a time.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with fellow staff and the public, both orally and in writing, to allow for coordination of work and for safety purposes.
  • Must be able to work well with others as well as independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must have the ability to work a flexible work schedule including days, evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Must be reliable and display consistent attendance and work ethic. Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • Must adhere to all Park District policies, including but not limited to dress code.
  • Must be able to recognize unsafe conditions and respond accordingly.
  • This position involves sitting, standing and lifting throughout the day. Must be able to sit or stand for sustained periods of time.
  • Must be able to perform tasks that require walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, carrying items, and reaching. Must be able to lift 25+ pounds for supplies and other items.
  • The general work area is an indoor, smoke-free environment with controlled temperature and fluorescent lighting. Exposure to noise distractions from employees or equipment operation in adjacent work areas. Infrequent exposure to cleaning materials and office supplies.
  • Due to the needs of the Park District, evening and weekend hours may be required. Your work schedule may vary and your work week may exceed regular hours at times, but will be less than 1,000 total hours per year.

Responsibilities

  • Become proficient in RegSys (registration software) including WebStore transactions.
  • Provide quality customer service to guests using park district facilities or calling for information or assistance.
  • Assist guests with residency validation, membership and program/class registrations, transfers and complex registration transactions.
  • Account for revenue collected during work shift.
  • Develop detailed information of park district membership, programs, facilities and events with the ability to respond with accurate information.
  • Provide assistance to park district staff or program instructors as needed.
  • Assist in supervising facility usage by patrons.
  • Support and exhibit the established organizational values of respect, communication, integrity, innovation recognition, continuous learning, fun, empowerment and people.
  • Attend required staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Be familiar with and perform the job safely and in compliance with the District policies, procedures, work and safety rules.
  • Assist as needed in implementing the facility emergency action plan.
  • Be able to work special events from time to time at night and on the weekend.
  • Maintain a neat and orderly work environment, return supplies and equipment to the appropriate location when finished.
  • May be scheduled to work at other park district facilities as needed.
  • Additional functions as assigned which may be considered essential.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Facility Manager, Superintendent of Recreation, Director of Recreation, and/or the Executive Director. However, in an emergency, perform all other duties as required.
