About The Position

The Senior Resource Association (SRA) is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for seniors and vulnerable adults in Indian River County. Our mission is rooted in compassion, integrity, and service to the community. The Guardian Representative is responsible for providing guardianship-related services to incapacitated individuals served under SRA’s Public Guardianship Program and Professional Guardianship Program. This role ensures the safety, well-being, and legal protection of wards while complying with all applicable Florida statutes, court requirements, and organizational policies. The Guardian Representative acts in the least restrictive manner possible, advocating for the ward’s personal, medical, residential, and financial needs while maintaining accurate documentation and court reporting.

Requirements

  • Ability to advocate effectively on behalf of vulnerable individuals.
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong mediation, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and general computer applications.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive client, medical, and financial information.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams, courts, vendors, and community partners.
  • Commitment to the mission, values, and goals of Senior Resource Association.
  • Must be registered and certified as a Public Guardian with the Office of Public and Professional Guardians (OPPG) or eligible to obtain certification.
  • Valid Florida Driver License
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field required.
  • Must successfully complete Level 2 background screening through Florida’s Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse and maintain eligibility with the Department of Elder Affairs (DOEA): https://info.flclearinghouse.com

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in social work, social services, aging programs, or a related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a separate electronic and physical case file for each ward, ensuring complete and accurate documentation.
  • Conduct and document regular visits with wards to assess physical condition, living environment, and quality of care.
  • Communicate regularly with wards to identify concerns, preferences, and unmet needs.
  • Coordinate and maintain communication with service providers, caregivers, healthcare professionals, and facility staff.
  • Manage and oversee ward budgets, bill payments, and financial records, including maintaining receipts and expense documentation.
  • Document guardian activities to account for billable time and reimbursable expenses as required.
  • Monitor and evaluate the ward’s living conditions to ensure safety, dignity, and alignment with the ward’s wishes when possible.
  • Advocate for appropriate medical care, social services, housing, and support services.
  • Apply ward income and assets appropriately toward care, maintenance, education, and approved expenses per court authorization.
  • Assist with applications for benefits, trusts, or programs to maximize the ward’s financial resources.
  • Prepare and submit required reports to the court regarding the ward’s physical condition, financial status, living situation, and overall well-being.
  • Ensure compliance with Florida Statute 744, Department of Elder Affairs (DOEA) requirements, and SRA policies.
  • Assist in emergency situations involving wards as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support guardianship operations.
