About The Position

Under the supervision of the Project Manager, the Grounds Maintenance Supervisor will take care of the facility property at Rivanna Station at National Ground Intelligence Center (NGIC) Charlottesville, VA by overseeing the grounds maintenance contractors and performing daily checks and servicing of the facility grounds. This position also supports manual tasks such as weed pulling, grass cutting, edging, irrigation and turf maintenance, snow removal activities and assists with facility-wide upkeep and special projects. Must be able to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI security clearance. Job Duties and Responsibilities: Full-time, on-site landscape/grounds maintenance supervisor who shall have at least three (3) years supervisory experience in grounds maintenance and landscape project management. This supervisor shall be capable of reading and annotating design drawings. Experienced in supervising shade tree pruning, fertilizing and insect and disease control, and knowledgeable in any techniques, code of ethics, and professional standards established by the National Arborist Association and the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Oversee the general cleanliness and appearance of the Grounds Collaborating with contractors and vendors Follow building plans and blueprints for EPA and Gov’t entities Respond to, diagnose, and resolve emergencies Perform routine inspections of pond and forebays on property Keep accurate records of time spent working, description of work performed, and materials used Perform pest control duties Supervise and assist with the snow removal activities Be available between 0700 – 1600 hours, Monday through Friday, except Federal holidays Must be on-call for inclement weather conditions Must have a valid driver’s license Preventative Maintenance (PM) Weekly: Inspection Fence Line Irrigation System (May-October) Vacuum Leaves and debris NGIC DIA CDC VCC Landscaping Rivanna Station Preventative Maintenance (PM) Monthly: Visual Inspection Dam Spillway Inspection Seven Forebays Inspection Pavement Markings and Signage Inspect/Maintain Security Path Preventative Maintenance (PM) Every two months: Open emergency drainage spillway valve (Feb-Apr-Jun-Aug-Oct-Dec) Clean Trough at Station Main Gate (Front Gate) same months above Preventative Maintenance (PM) Semi-Annual or Annually: Spring Start Up Irrigation NGIC/DIA - April (escort contractor) Winterize Irrigation NGIC/DIA - October (escort contractor) Salt Boxes April – October JUIAF Bridge Curtains (April raise – October lower) JUIAF Bridge Visual Annual Inspection – July Childcare Development Center - Clean Gutters Down Spouts – October/April Grounds: Work with Landscaping vendor for their weekly mowing Pull weeds in flower beds between Landscaping vendor visits Water Flower Beds that don’t have irrigation: DIA Bed and Tank Bed Provide Water for the Front Gate Officer’s Cooling Fan – Seasonal Overseeing weekly Waste Management pick-up and corrective action if needed Maintain grounds office shop to ensure tools and equipment are maintained in a professional/proper operation and condition

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Must have or be able to acquire and maintain TS/SCI Clearance
  • Skilled in the use of hand and power tools along with tractors and mowers
  • Ability to read and follow blueprints and rough drawings
  • Effective oral communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to complete unsupervised and unassisted projects
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Proficiency in basic mathematics and conversion of measurements
