About The Position

The Facilities Management department at CSU is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair and improvement of all academic, administrative, research and campus infrastructure. This role is responsible for the comprehensive maintenance and health of university grounds, ranging from routine landscape care and complex irrigation repair to seasonal snow removal operations. The position requires independent decision-making to diagnose plant health issues, manage chemical applications safely, and determine technical solutions for irrigation and design improvements. By coordinating with numerous departments and operating various equipment, the individual ensures a safe, functional, and aesthetically pleasing campus environment year-round. The position is in Fort Collins, CO 80523, working in the Facilities Management Department. This position does not have formal supervisory authority. This full-time, non-exempt position will be supervised by Phillip Goins, Grounds Main Campus Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Experience Only: Two (2) years of experience in a commercial landscape and maintenance organization.
  • Pre-employment Criminal Background Check (required for new hires).
  • Pre-employment Physical.
  • Valid Driver’s License - Colorado.
  • Essential Services Designation - Required to be on duty to perform essential and/or emergency services of the agency without delay or interruption.
  • Shift Work - Snow Removal - position will respond before/after hours for snow removal duties.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in horticulture or related field
  • Knowledge of pesticide application and mixing experience
  • Industry Certifications, such as Certified Landscape Technician, Arborist license
  • Directly related State Service experience

Responsibilities

  • Landscape Maintenance - Performs landscape maintenance of grass, trees, shrubs, other plant material and beds, including hand mowing, string trimming, shrub pruning, planting bed maintenance. Performs landscape clean up including litter removal, hard surface cleaning, leaf raking and removal.
  • Identification - Identifies disease, insect infestation, and need for pruning or thinning of plant material. Recommends and carries out remedies to include mixing and applying herbicide/insecticide, ensuring proper pruning or removal of plant material. Identifies problem areas in landscape design of past practices and recommends design changes or proper steps to rejuvenate.
  • Sprinklers and Irrigation - Operate, maintain, and repair sprinkler and irrigation systems in assigned areas, including programming controllers, adjusting and repairing sprinkler heads and valves.
  • Snow Removal - Performs snow removal with broom tractors, truck mounted snow plows, snow blowers, and hand shoveling.
