Every day across New York City, a simple act of care can strengthen the bond between people and the pets who depend on them. As a Grooming Specialist with ASPCA Community Engagement, you’ll bring practical support—and dignity—to neighbors facing barriers, helping pets stay healthy, comfortable, and at home where they belong. Who We Are The ASPCA’s Community Engagement program works in New York City to assist pet owners by addressing systemic issues such as lack of access to resources, domestic violence, socioeconomic distress, and medical or mental health considerations. Access to grooming can be a challenge to pet owners in NYC who experience these underlying challenges. The Grooming Specialist will work as part of a team to deliver basic grooming to these pet owners who come to the ASPCA via relationships with key partners (e.g., human service organizations, animal welfare groups, NYPD). What You’ll Do The Grooming Specialist will participate in field work including visiting client’s homes to provide in-home grooming and will also act as a case lead on non-grooming cases to coordinate services for clients, transport animals from veterinary hospitals to the ASPCA hospital as needed, and attend community events. This position will also provide grooming services at ASPCA events and a weekly mobile grooming event. The Grooming Specialist will also provide grooming at other ASPCA locations (Community Veterinary Centers) as well as helping internal departments with grooming needs. Where and When You’ll Work This position will be providing grooming services 3-4 days of the week across the five boroughs including the South Bronx, East New York (Brooklyn), the Upper East Side (Manhattan) and Long Island City (Queens) and will have one office-based day in Long Island City. The schedule for this position is Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00am – 5:00pm. Shifts are subject to change at the sole discretion of the ASPCA. What You’ll Get Compensation Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of factors, including but not limited to education, training, experience, location, business needs, internal equity, market demands or budgeted amount for the role. The target hiring range is for new hire offers only, and staff compensation may increase beyond the maximum hiring range based on performance over time. The maximum of the hiring range is reserved for candidates with the highest qualifications and relevant experience. The expected hiring salary range for this role is set forth below and may be modified in the future. The target hiring range for this role is $25.97 - $28.00 hourly.
