About The Position

The Hospice of Baton Rouge is seeking a skilled and compassionate Grief Program Content Developer to support grief services offered through The Retreat at Quarters Lake. This role is responsible for developing clear, practical, and evidence-informed materials and activities for grief groups serving children, adolescents, and adults, as well as the facilitators who lead them. This position plays an essential role in strengthening grief programming by translating grief theory and best practices into facilitator-ready content that promotes consistency, quality, and meaningful engagement across a variety of group settings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in social or behavioral science, psychology, social work, counseling, or a related field required.
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to convey complex emotional concepts clearly and compassionately.
  • Deep understanding of group facilitation principles and group dynamics.
  • Ability to translate clinical concepts into practical, user-friendly tools for facilitators.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while functioning independently.
  • Compassionate, empathetic approach to grief support.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Flexibility to work evenings or weekends as needed for meetings, collaboration, or program support.
  • Completion of at least one (1) hour per year of grief-specific continuing education (not required to be CEU-eligible), in addition to any licensure requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree preferred (MSW, LPC, LCSW, or related field).
  • Previous experience facilitating support groups, particularly in grief and loss, preferred.
  • Familiarity with grief counseling theories and evidence-based bereavement practices.

Responsibilities

  • Develop original grief group content, including session outlines, discussion prompts, psychoeducational materials, experiential activities, and reflective exercises.
  • Create facilitator guides that include learning objectives, suggested language, timing guidance, and strategies for managing group dynamics.
  • Ensure all materials are grounded in established grief theories and evidence-based practices.
  • Adapt content for different types of grief groups, including children, adolescents, and adults (e.g., general loss, caregiver or anticipatory grief, spouse/partner loss, and complex or prolonged grief), ensuring materials are developmentally appropriate and responsive to the needs of each population.
  • Review, update, and refine existing grief group materials to ensure clarity, relevance, and clinical appropriateness.
  • Collaborate with grief group facilitators and leadership to incorporate feedback from real-world group experiences.
  • Maintain organized documentation of materials, including version control, to support consistent use by facilitators.
  • Uphold confidentiality and sensitivity standards when developing and handling grief-related content.
