About The Position

The Green Schools Campaign (GSC) Senior Organizer/Manager is responsible for the management and expansion of Climate Reality’s Green Schools Campaign (GSC) program, which develops the leadership, advocacy, and grassroots organizing skills of young people to spearhead initiatives to transition K-12 schools in the United States to 100% clean energy. This position will engage with high school student leaders, trained Climate Reality Leaders, chapter members, GSC Youth Advisory Board and working group members, and organizations interested in advancing this work. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, leading program strategic planning, assisting GSC teams with developing and implementing campaign plans, coaching and mentoring, fostering peer-to-peer relationships, developing skills-building workshops and materials, recruiting and onboarding new GSC student leaders and adult allies, and managing the program Slack channel and social media accounts. Additionally, this position will be responsible for tracking the program metrics and budget, reporting, and ensuring compliance with Climate Reality’s Youth Engagement Policy. This is a full time, exempt, benefits-eligible, grant funded, term limited position currently funded through December 31, 2026. The Climate Reality Project offers a flexible hybrid schedule, with staff working from our office in downtown Washington, DC at least two days per week to enable and encourage collaboration within and among teams. Currently reporting to the Reducing Emissions Campaign Manager, the Green Schools Campaign Senior Organizer/Manager may oversee part time undergraduate or graduate fellows or interns. This position will be a part of the Campaigns team. This position is within a union-represented collective bargaining unit, and specific terms and conditions of employment will be subject to a collective bargaining agreement between Climate Reality and the union. The salary range for the role is $66,625-$67,957.50 This is a term-limited role through December 31, 2026

Requirements

  • Experience with student organizing, particularly high school students
  • Subnational advocacy and organizing experience
  • Experience leading a team or program
  • Coaching or mentoring experience
  • Experience creating advocacy, organizing, climate and/or leadership developmentworkshops, materials, and resources
  • Demonstrated ability to build coalitions and work in partnership
  • Demonstrated ability to work with volunteer groups across multiple states
  • Demonstrated ability to work well cross-generationally
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of school governing bodies preferred
  • Dedication to solving the climate crisis and developing the next generation of climateleaders
  • Good time management and organization skills
  • Solution oriented in the management of potential challenges
  • Ability to work independently and capable of balancing multiple priorities effectively
  • Demonstrable strategic thinker and problem-solving acumen

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer required
  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience

Responsibilities

  • Lead program strategic planning and work plan development and implementation
  • Lead the Climate Reality GSC Working Group
  • Liaise with the GSC Youth Advisory Board
  • Manage a part-time fellow
  • Use Climate Reality’s project management tool to track GSC team progress andmembership
  • Ensure program compliance with Climate Reality’s Youth Engagement Policy
  • Track and report campaign metrics and narratives
  • Track and manage the GSC program budget
  • Additional administrative duties as assigned
  • Assist GSC teams with developing and implementing campaign plans
  • Provide support for GSC teams and leaders through one-on-one coaching
  • Manage the Green Schools Campaign Slack Channel
  • Organize and lead quarterly all-GSC and monthly small group online meetings
  • Coordinate with the Climate Reality Field Team to promote chapter participation inGSC
  • Recruit and onboard new GSC youth leaders and adult allies
  • Lead the development of GSC workshops, webinars, resources, and materials
  • Build relationships and partnerships with organizations working in the schools-climate space at the national, regional, and local level
  • Build relationships with technical experts who can provide resources and advice toGSC teams
  • Write blogs, monthly emails to all GSC team members, updates to the US newsletter,and reports for funders
  • Manage the GSC website and social media accounts
