About The Position

The grants writer is responsible for drafting/writing proposals for unrestricted operating revenue as well as restricted projects for all sites (except Posse New York and nation-wide programs). The grants writer is also responsible for tracking and submitting timely reports for all existing grants, preparing budgets for grant applications and grant reports, conducting prospect research, drafting acknowledgements/thank you letters and other donor correspondence. The grants writer reports to the Vice President of Development. Posse is headquartered in New York City and has offices in nine other major cities. This position focuses on funding in these nine cities (Atlanta, the Bay Area, Boston, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New Orleans and Washington, D.C.) This is a remote position with some travel required, and is open to individuals in the New York City Metro Area (including New Jersey and Connecticut), California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Texas, and the Washington D.C. Metro Area (including Maryland and Virginia).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Three + years of development/fundraising experience preferred
  • Strong written communication skills, ability to write clear, structured, and persuasive proposals
  • A solid understanding of budgets as they related to proposals and grants
  • Strong editing skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent organization skills, ability to meet deadlines and multi-task
  • Knowledge of fundraising information sources
  • Willingness to take initiative
  • Motivated and able to work independently as well as with a team
  • Able to establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience working with a fundraising database
  • Raiser’s Edge experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated belief in Posse’s mission and values

Responsibilities

  • Draft and submit foundation and corporate proposals, reports and letters.
  • Track all deadlines for proposals and reports.
  • Work with national development team and Development Directors at sites to identify and research prospects.
  • Maintain communication, as directed, with organizational donors (specifically foundation and corporate donors) as well as with prospective donors.
  • Collect and manage information relevant to grants.
  • Provide written materials necessary for donor stewardship.
  • Maintain donor files, including electronic files within the Raiser’s Edge Database.
  • Organize and implement annual donor mailings.
  • Assist and provide support with Posse-wide fundraising events and other duties as assigned.
