Learn more at nrdc.org NRDC is seeking a Grants Manager to work with our Development team in one of our U.S.-based offices. The Grants Manager will support the work of the Grants Management and Operations team, which helps to bring in, track, and report on grant funding from the organization’s institutional and principal-level donors. Reporting to the Director of Grants Management and Operations, the Grants Manager will work closely with colleagues across the organization—in partnership with the team’s senior grants managers—to support progress toward fundraising goals and successful grant stewardship. To that end, they will secure data related to key elements of proposal budgets, expense reports, and other financial materials; help to track, update, and maintain institutional information commonly required for grant proposals and reporting; and lead coordination with NRDC’s Finance and Accounting departments, Program and Capacities teams, as well as other Development Department units to complete donor facing financial reports and budgets. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 2-4 years’ experience in grants budget management and, financial reporting.
  • Exceptional skills working with financial data and conducting budget analysis in MS Excel.
  • Strong analytical skills and demonstrated ability to develop proposals, reports, and other materials, including budgets and financial reports.
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to prioritize multiple streams of work to meet competing deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to coordinate across the organization and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders.
  • Effective and unflappable in a fast-paced, sometimes high-pressure environment; eager to contribute to the collaborative dynamic of the team and Development department.
  • Detail-oriented and organized with strong follow-through.

Responsibilities

  • Track donor deadlines and request grant financial reports from Program Finance Managers (PFM), ensuring they have all required templates.
  • Drawing from data supplied by programs and finance teams, draft donor-facing financial reports using required funder templates; collaborate with the Director, Senior Grants Managers, and Senior Grant Writers to ensure these financial pieces align well to the report narrative.
  • Support analysis of variances between proposal budgets and actual expenses; collaborate with PFMs and program teams to address discrepancies and escalate issues as appropriate.
  • Support in developing proposal budgets and budget narratives by reviewing funder requirements and gathering program inputs; collaborate with fundraisers, program staff, grant writers, and finance partners to ensure donor interest and NRDC policies and financial planning needs are aligned.
  • Track no-cost extension requests and other grant modifications in partnership with colleagues on the Principal and Institutional Giving Operations team; partner with Donor Systems and Finance colleagues to ensure these are updated and processed accurately.
  • Support the grants allocations process and flag delays for the appropriate stakeholders.
  • Maintain clear, organized and up-to-date documentation of budget materials, reporting drafts, financial correspondence, and NRDC’s audited statements, 990s, and other institutional financial information.
  • Assist as needed with entering and updating donor facing financial information in Salesforce and SharePoint, ensuring consistency across systems.
  • Support the writing team in timely submission of donor material, as needed.
  • On a need basis, support grants management of Major Gifts team, which works collaboratively with the Principal Gifts team to meet NRDC’s fundraising goals.
