About The Position

The Grants Controller position is responsible for performing various staff accountant functions as it relates to the grant process, ensuring the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidating and entering transactions for billing. The Grants Controller will serve as a team leader in the Finance Department and will ensure the department creates accurate and timely financial records related to grants.

Requirements

  • Attention to detail and accuracy is important.
  • Must become an expert at self-review to find mistakes before sending work to manager.
  • Communicate effectively with manager and program directors the status of grants and other critical information especially during month-end and year end closings.
  • Mastering time management; strong ability to prioritize and multitask.
  • The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of 5-7 years accounting experience is required and at least 1 year of previous grant experience is preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in non-profit preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares monthly grant billings for all assigned grants.
  • Prepares budget analysis and projections for cost-based grants and coordinates with the program director in meeting objectives for performance-based grants. Also ensure that the budget module is up to date and accurate.
  • Responsible for the preparation and/or review of financial reports for submission to funding sources and to ensure financial compliance with terms of the grant.
  • Maintains complete and accurate grant files and ensures financial system has the most up to date information.
  • Reconciles receivables and income earned from public and private sources.
  • Conduct and oversee monthly budget review to effectively manage the financial activities of each grant and ensure that all activities fall within the funder and agency guidelines.
  • Reconciles and close grants on a timely basis.
  • Responsible for the financial and account reconciliation including year-end audit work papers for YW properties.
  • Trains and oversees program staff on proper coding of expenditures.
  • Assists in the training and orientation of other office staff and interns.
  • Reconciles monthly rent and security deposits for all properties.
  • Other duties as assigned.
