About The Position

The Cohon University Center employs the role of Graduate Intern to actively support the mission of the department and CMU’s Division of Student Affairs. The Graduate Intern for Student Staff Development will focus specifically on the areas of student development and professional development for approximately 35-40 student workers employed by the Cohon University Center. In addition, to better understand the Cohon University Center and the student staff experience, the Graduate intern will also serve as a Building Supervisor for one shift per week. The Graduate Intern will be responsible for opening the building on Saturday mornings, which will require in-person work. While not serving in these functions, remote-work is available. We are looking for someone who shares our values and who will support the mission of the university through their work. The Graduate Intern position is a part-time position intended for a student enrolled in a student affairs graduate program or related field. The Graduate Intern will work 17 hours per week. The anticipated internship period for the 2026-2027 academic year is August 16, 2026 through May 8, 2027. Applicants must submit a resume with their application. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
  • Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work for CMU in the United States.
  • CMU will not sponsor or take over the sponsorship of an employment visa for this opportunity.
  • Carnegie Mellon is not a qualifying employer for the STEM OPT benefit: only the 12-month OPT may be used to work at Carnegie Mellon.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and oversee the CMU Grow Initiative for student staff development.
  • Conduct assessment of the student staff experience focused on the areas of staff satisfaction, performance/development, and operational considerations.
  • Coordinate ongoing training and development initiatives for student staff members specific to personal and professional development.
  • Provide regular updates on progress and initiatives to Cohon University Center professional staff
  • Other duties as assigned in support of the mission of the Cohon University Center
  • Serve as a Building Supervisor for one shift per week
