The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) protects public health and the environment by supplying clean drinking water, collecting, and treating wastewater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country and delivers more than 1.1 billion gallons per day of the highest quality drinking water to 9.5 million NY State residents. The Office of Energy and Resource Recovery Programs (Energy Office) is charged with plotting the course for DEP to meet its energy and carbon neutrality goals, maximizing resource recovery, as well as advancing a circular economy for the City’s organic waste. The Energy Office also provides energy and performance tracking, program assessment, scientific research, long term and strategic planning and internal auditing services to DEP's operating bureaus. The selected candidate will play a key role in informing the energy and GHG reduction plans at the nation’s largest water and wastewater utility. The selected candidate should have an interest in energy, infrastructure, municipal operations, climate change, and environmental sustainability. In addition, the summer intern will develop a final presentation to display assignments they have been involved with while working as an intern at the DEP Interns Closing Ceremony.
