VHB’s South Portland, ME office is looking for a Environmental/Energy Intern to join our team for summer of 2026. We are VHB! Requirements

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work in the field which will involve travel and use of personal vehicle, extended hours, overnight stays and may include challenging field and weather conditions
  • Ability to independently manage multiple tasks and interact appropriately and positively with teammates and clients
  • Self-motivated with attention to detail
  • Good time management skills
  • Candidates must be a current student working towards their bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental science or a natural science related field.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with VHB staff to advance projects in a timely manner
  • Assist with wetland delineations as part of a 2-person field crew
  • Assist with mobile data collection for wetland delineations
  • Assist with plant identification, vegetation inventory and soils analysis
  • Perform GPS collection using mobile technology and perform data management
  • Provide permit compliance monitoring including weekly progress reports for utility projects after internal training provided
  • Assist with water quality monitoring fieldwork and data processing
  • Perform data entry, research, and analysis
  • Assist with writing, reporting and permit application preparation
  • Assist with environmental permitting support
