About The Position

The Graduate Assistant for Residence Life is a part-time, ten-month, live-on professional staff position responsible for supporting the comprehensive residential experience and daily operations of the residence halls. Reporting to the professional Residence Life staff, the Graduate Assistant plays a critical role in fostering a safe, inclusive, and engaging living-learning environment for residential students. The Graduate Assitant is expected to maintain office hours while classes are in session and additional weeks as the workload dictates. The Graduate Assistant co-supervises a student staff of approximately 8–12 Resident Assistants and Desk Attendants, supports residential programming and community development efforts, assists with housing operations and facilities coordination, and adjudicates Level 1 student conduct cases. As a member of the Residence Life on-call team, the Graduate Assistant participates in a rotating on-call schedule and responds to emergencies, crises, and student concerns outside of normal business hours.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and undergraduate student leadership experience
  • Enrollment in a full-time graduate program
  • Valid state driver’s license with reliable transportation

Responsibilities

  • Student Staff Supervision & Development Co-supervise and mentor a student staff of approximately 12 Resident Assistants and 10-15 Desk Attendants in collaboration with professional Residence Life staff.
  • Facilitate or co-facilitate weekly staff meetings focused on community development, policy education, crisis response, and professional skill-building.
  • Assist with the evaluation process for student staff, including mid-semester and end-of year assessments.
  • Community Development & Programming Support the development of positive, inclusive residential communities through regular presence in the residence halls.
  • Attend and support Resident Assistant-led programs, initiatives, and community-building activities.
  • Track programming efforts and participation to ensure alignment with departmental goals and assessment needs.
  • Collaborate with student staff and campus partners to support educational, social, and wellness-focused programming.
  • Residence Life Operations Assist with the facilitation of major Residence Life operational processes, including: Student staff training in August and January Health and safety inspections Hall openings and closings for academic breaks Student staff recruitment, selection, and onboarding Housing exchange and room swap Assist in the day-to-day administrative operations of the Residence Life Office, including responding to student inquiries and supporting departmental initiatives.
  • Conduct & Crisis Response Adjudicate Level 1 conduct cases, including conducting hearings, determining outcomes, assigning sanctions, and managing follow-up and documentation.
  • Participate in a rotating on-campus on-call duty schedule, responding to student emergencies, behavioral concerns, and facilities issues.
  • Serve as a first responder for student crises, providing appropriate support, documentation, and referrals in accordance with college protocols.
  • Collaborate with professional staff, campus partners, and emergency responders as necessary during crisis situations.
  • Facilities & Housing Coordination Ensure maintenance concerns and facilities issues are properly documented, submitted, and followed up with in coordination with facilities staff.
  • Maintain accurate room condition records for student check-in and check-out processes.
  • Conduct walkthroughs of residence hall spaces to identify safety, cleanliness, or maintenance concerns.
  • Campus Engagement & Professional Contribution Participate in Student Life and campus-wide initiatives, committees, or events as assigned.
  • Maintain regular visibility and approachability within the residence halls during evenings and weekends.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support the mission and goals of Residence Life and Student Life.
