We seek an exceptional individual to join our team as the Graduate Advisor (Student Services Professional II). Under general supervision of the Senior Assistant Director of Graduate Business Programs and the Executive Director of Graduate Programs and Non-Degree Programs, the Graduate Advisor provides academic advising and student support to graduate students in the College of Business and Economics (CBE) Graduate Programs. Serves as an academic advisor for all Graduate Programs students, advising newly admitted and continuing students on prerequisites, course waivers, degree requirements, course selection, evaluation of transcripts, and general university policy and procedures, Advises students on or at risk of academic probation. Coordinates student success initiatives. Oversees the processing of digital welcome packets. Processes classifications and review and process graduation checks for current students. Obtains the approval and required signatures for petitions and documents for the CBE Graduate Program. Coordinates and participates in special programs, retention activities, and new student orientations/seminars including projects associated with student success. Oversees the development and process of programs for the newly admitted students as they transition into the program. The Graduate Advisor assists with internships and works in collaboration with the Study Abroad program. Responsible for developing, updating, and training on the paperless process through Salesforce. Responsible for updating and tracking student-advising communications each semester. Trains and oversees student workers while keeping training documents up to date. Assists the Senior Assistant Director of Graduate Business Programs with situations such as scheduling conflicts, course replacements, and grading issues. Collaborates with Scheduling to correct any issues with course sections, notifying Scheduling of mistakes in order to ensure successful student registration. Provides support to the Senior Assistant Director of Graduate Programs as needed. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or the equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public administration, business administration or a job-related field and two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or a related field. A Master's degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience. Additional specialized and relevant experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • General knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational management, research, and interview techniques.
  • Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations, obtain factual and interpretative information through interviews, and advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters.
  • Ability to reason logically and use initiative in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements.
  • Ability to plan, develop, coordinate, supervise, and organize programs and activities.
  • Ability to interact with a diverse student population, faculty, staff, and the public.
  • Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to acquire knowledge of campus procedures, activities, and of the overall organization.
  • A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
  • A valid California driver's license.
