About The Position

The Government Grants Compliance Officer at Atlanta Mission, under the general supervision of the Systems Team, works cross-functionally with internal teams and external partners, consultants, and government agencies to oversee all pre- and post-award aspects of the government grant lifecycle. This role ensures full compliance with grant agreements, funder regulations, internal policies, and organizational goals. The Compliance Officer serves as a subject-matter expert on grant requirements and is responsible for reviewing and editing grant submissions, monitoring compliance, supporting program implementation, ensuring timely and accurate reporting, and communicating requirements clearly to internal and external stakeholders. The role requires strong organizational skills, collaboration, attention to detail, independent judgment, and the ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of federal Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200), Single Audit requirements, and applicable state grant regulations.
  • Ability to interpret complex regulatory language and translate it into practical operational guidance.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple grants and deadlines simultaneously with minimal supervision.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • High level of attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and accountability.
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally—particularly with Systems team—to define reporting needs, request and interpret data extracts, and reconcile information from multiple platforms to ensure accurate grant compliance reporting.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher, or 3-5 years of relevant education plus experience.
  • Must have the ability to remain in a stationary position (standing, walking and sitting)
  • Must be able to communicate accurate information
  • Must be able to occasionally lift and/or carry up to 10lbs

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of Salesforce, Asana, and MS Teams programs is desired.
  • Professional certifications such as the Grant Professional Certified (GPC) or Certified Grants Management Specialist (CGMS) would be a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the central compliance point of contact for all government grants across departments.
  • Interpret and translate grant requirements into clear, actionable guidance for program, finance, and leadership teams.
  • Develop and maintain grant compliance tools, timelines, and tracking systems to support successful execution.
  • Communicate regularly with internal stakeholders to ensure shared understanding of responsibilities, deadlines, and risks.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Grants and external Grants Consultant/Writer to identify and assess funding opportunities for compliance feasibility and organizational readiness.
  • Review funding opportunity announcements (NOFOs/RFPs) to interpret eligibility, programmatic requirements, allowable costs, performance measures, and reporting obligations.
  • Ensure proposals fully meet funder guidelines and align with organizational strategy, operational capacity, and compliance standards.
  • Work closely with program leadership, finance, and IT/data staff to gather required narratives, budgets, work plans, performance metrics, letters of support, and supporting documentation.
  • Confirm that data systems, staffing plans, operational infrastructure, and necessary partnerships are in place to execute the proposed project as described.
  • Collaborate with finance staff and consultants to develop compliant grant budgets, ensuring alignment with federal cost principles and funder requirements.
  • Review budgets for accuracy, allowability, allocability, and consistency with the proposed scope of work.
  • Coordinate internal proposal review and approval processes to ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment across departments.
  • Verify required certifications, assurances, and authorizations prior to submission.
  • Review and support execution of grant agreements, amendments, and related documents.
  • Summarize key award terms, conditions, reporting schedules, and compliance requirements for internal stakeholders.
  • Establish grant start-up checklists and compliance calendars upon award.
  • Develop and implement project-specific compliance plans to ensure grants are executed in accordance with funder requirements and organizational policies.
  • Monitor adherence to approved budgets scopes of work, procurement rules, and performance expectations.
  • Identify compliance risks early and recommend corrective actions to leadership and project teams.
  • Conduct periodic internal compliance reviews to proactively identify risk areas and recommend process improvements
  • Track programmatic progress against approved goals, milestones, and performance measures.
  • Coordinate with program staff to document outcomes, participant eligibility, service delivery, and required data elements.
  • Ensure changes to scope, budget, or timelines are documented and approved by funders when required.
  • Prepare and/or coordinate timely submission of programmatic, financial, and compliance reports to funders.
  • Review reports for accuracy, consistency, and compliance prior to submission.
  • Maintain organized grant files and documentation to support audits, monitoring visits, and site reviews.
  • Serve as liaison between the organization and funders, pass-through entities, and regulatory agencies.
  • Support funder monitoring visits, desk reviews, and audits by coordinating documentation and staff participation.
  • Provide grant orientation and compliance training for new Project/Program Directors and key staff.
  • Develop guidance materials, checklists, and tools to strengthen organizational grant compliance capacity.
  • Serve as a bridge between grant compliance and Atlanta Mission’s IT/Data/Software systems.
  • Collaborate with the Systems Team to ensure grant-related data is accurately captured, structured, and reported across platforms (e.g., Salesforce, dashboards, reporting tools).
  • Support the definition of data requirements, reporting logic, and system workflows needed for grant compliance and performance tracking.
  • Identify gaps or inefficiencies in systems, data flows, or reporting processes and partner with IT to implement improvements.
  • Assist in validating data integrity across systems to ensure accurate reporting to funders and internal stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the design and improvement of systems and processes that support compliance, reporting, and operational effectiveness.
  • Support the Systems and broader Infrastructure team in executing key initiatives and operational priorities that advance organizational technology, data, and service delivery goals.
