About The Position

The Academic Year Internship Program is designed for students to work on real projects, contribute meaningfully, and develop skills in a collaborative environment over two full semesters. Interns are supported in their growth, especially if they are curious, driven, and interested in media, entertainment, and technology. This specific internship, within Corporate Legal – Government Affairs (JD-level), focuses on regulatory, legislative, and public policy matters related to broadcasting, media, film, and streaming. Key areas include broadcast licensing, media regulations, programming and advertising standards, accessibility, privacy, intellectual property, and content piracy. The program runs from September 21, 2026, to April 23, 2027, requiring 16-24 hours per week, and is based in Washington, DC. The recruitment process involves applications opening on April 20, closing on May 8, followed by video and second-round interviews from early May to mid-July, with offers extended throughout July.

Requirements

  • Must be actively enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited institution during the entire duration of the program (September 2026 through April 2027)
  • Current class standing of sophomore or above (30 credits)
  • Must be presently authorized to work for any employer in the United States and must not require work visa sponsorship from NBCUniversal now or in the future to retain authorization to work in the United States
  • Must be available to work 16-24 hours per week from September 21, 2026 – April 23, 2027
  • Must be willing to work in Washington, DC
  • Candidates currently on any student or exchange visa (e.g. F-1 CPT, F-1 OPT, J-1, M-1) are not eligible to apply unless they will be able to change or adjust to another status that grants work authorization without NBCUniversal sponsorship
  • Must complete I-9 form with Social Security number within 3 days of hire
  • Must be a current J.D. candidate in good standing

Nice To Haves

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Current class standing of 2L or above preferred
  • Coursework or experience in administrative and copyright law
  • Interest in the broadcast, digital media, and telecommunications industries

Responsibilities

  • preparing briefing memos, talking points, comment summaries, and other written materials
  • attending virtual and in-person hearings, conferences, and events
  • partnering with team members to determine the impact of federal actions on the organization
  • developing presentations and other written materials on findings
  • acting as an internal consultant to the government affairs team
