HN388 - Full-Time Governess/Traveling Teacher - SoHo
About The Position
A family in SoHo is seeking an engaging and highly educated traveling teacher to support the academic and developmental growth of three children ages 4, 7, and 10. Based in SoHo, New York City plus domestic and international travel with family required. This role blends structured learning with experiential, play-based education and requires flexibility, enthusiasm, and a love of travel. The ideal candidate is playful, conversational, active, and fully engaged with children in both home and travel settings. This is not a childcare position and there will always be at least 2 nannies managing the childcare-related responsibilities. This role is full-time and a flexible schedule is required, but primary workdays include after school, weekends, school breaks, and summer months. Travel required during holidays and extended family trips. Family will guarantee 30-40 hours per week.
Requirements
- Background in education, teaching, tutoring, or child development
- Experience working with children in the 4–10 age range
- High-energy, positive, playful, and patient demeanor
- Strong conversational skills and ability to engage children intellectually
- Confident swimmer and comfortable supervising children in and around water
- Highly organized, adaptable, and flexible with changing schedules
- Comfortable traveling extensively and living out of a suitcase when needed
- CPR/First Aid certified (or willing to obtain)
Responsibilities
- Provide age-appropriate educational support tailored to each child’s learning level
- Design and implement engaging lessons that incorporate reading, writing, math, and enrichment activities
- Support schoolwork, homework, and project-based learning during travel and school breaks
- Foster curiosity through hands-on learning, educational outings, and real-world experiences
- Encourage positive behavior, confidence, and strong communication skills
- Collaborate closely with parents and other household staff
- Maintain a structured yet fun learning environment while traveling
- Ensure children’s safety at all times, including during swimming and outdoor activities
