About The Position

The Pro Shop Manager manages and supervises the operation of the Golf Course Pro Shop to ensure quality service is provided to the public and that work is performed in compliance with City policies and procedures. Responsibilities include supervising the Golf Course Pro Shop Assistant Manager and part-time staff engaged in collecting fees, supervising golf cart operations, managing the driving range, managing the retail inventory and coordinating golf tournaments. The Golf Course Pro Shop Manager works with considerable independence and is responsible for making decisions requiring technical discretion, sound judgment and familiarity with City policies and golf industry standards. This classification assists in establishing the budget and monitoring expenditures to ensure efficient operations. This classification researches and develops recommendations regarding fees charged for golf, carts, range balls, and changes in policy. This classification evaluates performance through written reports, discussions and results achieved. This classification seeks feedback from the public who utilize the Golf Course facilities and partners with the Golf Course Manager to evaluate and recommend improvements for guest experience.

  • This position requires the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. The individual must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the City does not authorize the employee to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

Nice To Haves

  • Member of an accredited golf professional management program and three years of experience as either a Head Golf Professional or the first assistant to a Head Golf Professional is preferred.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and administers operational policies and procedures for the Golf Course Pro Shop
  • Prepares and administers department budget and maintains proper budgetary controls
  • Prepares and implements audit reports and action plans
  • Prepares and presents management reports to the Assistant City Manager, City Manager, and/or City Commission
  • Completes a daily report of all transactions and ensures funds collected are deposited daily
  • Monitors quantity of goods and materials on stock through a manual inventory control system and establishes reorder standards
  • Oversees food and beverage operations, focusing on menu development, inventory management, staff supervision, and quality
  • Hires, schedules, evaluates, and trains staff on policies, procedures and job duties
  • Develops written operational procedures
  • Works closely with golf organizations, citizen groups, vendors and industry representatives
  • Schedules golf cart usage and determines the need to replace or repair golf carts
  • Solicits, manages, and facilitates tournaments, group events and tracks results
  • Implements a systematic instructional program for private, beginner, and group lessons
  • Authorizes payments to vendors
  • Verifies bank reconciliation statements
  • Greets the public, schedules tee times, and answers questions regarding the use of golf facilities
  • Supervises the merchandising and maintenance of a complete clubhouse, which carries golf equipment, clothing, and supplies according to seasonal inventory levels
  • Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality customer service
  • Performs essential and marginal functions as assigned
