About The Position

The Golf Maintenance Technician position performs manual labor and technical tasks in the maintenance and construction across the district's golf courses. This includes assisting with irrigation systems and turf care. Why Join Us? Since reopening from a $16 million renovation project in 2017, the reinvented property has been honored with awards and recognition from national golf publications and environmental groups alike, including: Golf Inc. - 2018 Renovation of the Year Winner Golf Digest - 2017 Green Star Award Winner Golfweek – 2025 Best Courses You Can Play What You'll Do Assist with the maintenance and repair of irrigation and drainage systems and perform regular turf maintenance through mowing, aerating, and pruning trees and shrubs, all to ensure top playing quality. Lead and assist in the training of seasonal employees, promoting best practices in maintenance and safety. Conduct routine maintenance on tools, machinery, and equipment to maintain working conditions. Assist in the repair and maintenance of golf cart paths and fences around the course property. Support the construction of new golf course features, including preparing soil and grading turf for plantings. Apply fertilizers and plant protectants. Transport equipment between multiple district locations as required. Perform snow removal and landscaping around the golf clubhouse as needed. Assist the supervisor with the selection of staff, scheduling, training, and providing guidance, and communicating day to day tasks and expectations. Relay and provide input regarding work performance, training needs, and growth opportunities. Foster a work environment that promotes safe work habits, become familiar with safety rules and procedures, keep work areas clean, and report on any unsafe conditions and incidents. Maintain a supportive working environment and demonstrate a desire to succeed the expectations of internal and external customers. Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older at the time of hire.
  • High School Diploma/GED; 1 - 3 years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Valid Driver's License in good standing.
  • Must have and maintain CPR, AED, and First Aid Certification or obtain within 6 months.
  • Illinois Department of Agriculture Pesticide Operator's License within six (6) months of employment in good standing.
  • Familiar with methods, practices, and materials used in the maintenance of golf course tees, greens, fairways, and roughs.
  • Thorough understanding of chemical applications for turf cultivation, plant protection, and maintenance of shrubs and ornamental plants.
  • Skilled in the installation, maintenance, and repair of irrigation and drainage systems to ensure consistent course conditions.
  • Demonstrated success in establishing and maintaining productive working relationships.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong organizational skills to maintain accurate records and data.
