About The Position

Oversees the creation, design, and production of all park/trail maps for the park district, both printed and digital. Collaborates with the Operations Department and Planning Department to properly mark and document all park trails. Using a park district-issued drone unit, photographs, and record videos to document park development for grant funding and reporting, as well as for promotional purposes. Oversees major graphic design and website projects, working in tandem with the Marketing Department. 1.) College degree in GIS (Geographic Information Systems), computer science, information technology, a related field, or four years of equivalent experience. 2.) Hands-on knowledge of Esri ArcGIS desktop software. Strong understanding of geodatabases and geodatabase applications. Ability to work with vector and raster datasets. Experience using ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Portal, or another web mapping system. Familiar with GPS data collection and data management. 3.) Thorough knowledge of web-based applications such as Squarespace and/or WordPress, as well as basic HTML/CSS coding. Thorough knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Adobe Premiere) for design and editing purposes, and a working knowledge of social media. A college degree in graphic design, web design, or equivalent professional experience is a plus. 4.) Able to combine GIS knowledge and graphic design skills to produce maps of various sizes and complexities for the park district as needed. 5.) Completion of job-related trainings and continuing education to maintain and expand skills and knowledge as assigned and required. 6.) Drone pilot experience and the ownership of an FAA-certified pilot’s license are a plus. 7.) Photography and videography skills are a plus. 8.) Strong written and verbal communication skills. Resourceful and self-motivated. 9.) Must possess a valid Ohio driver’s license. New employees must satisfactorily complete a back¬ground investigation. Lorain County Metropolitan Park District policy prohibits hiring new employees who are tobacco users.

  • A four-year degree in graphic design or web design, or four years of equivalent experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of web-based applications such as HTML/CSS, PHP, MySQL, JavaScript, and InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Dreamweaver, and Adobe Premiere for design and editing purposes.
  • Ability to calculate fractions, decimals, and percentages, and operate related mathematical equipment such as calculators.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing effectively and courteously with co-workers, supervisors, the general public, local law enforcement agencies, community/citizen groups, and other public agencies.
  • Ability to prepare meaningful, concise, and accurate reports; establish effective working relationships as supervisor of the work unit; and use a two-way radio. Ability to communicate technical information to non-expert users.
  • Ability to recognize unusual or threatening conditions and take appropriate action; apply management principles to solve practical, everyday work problems; ability to define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Possession of a valid Ohio driver’s license, be insurable by the park district’s insurance carrier, and be able to conform to the driving standards policy as approved by the Board of Park Commissioners. Must satisfactorily complete a background investigation.
