About The Position

Under general supervision, the Geographic Information System (GIS) Analyst is responsible for providing GIS support, map creation, data visualization, and data analysis from various data repositories; preparing GIS programs and applications; conducting geographical research and analysis; designing, developing and implementing interface with other systems; and providing technical support and training for other departmental employees.

  • Ability to perform a variety of physical skills including but not limited to filing, pulling, seeing, sorting, squatting, standing, stooping, twisting body, typing, walking, and writing.
  • Ability to operate a variety of office equipment including but not limited to PC, telephone, calculator, scanner, and copier.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize deadlines and tasks.
  • Ability to learn new systems and procedures quickly.
  • Ability to plan, organize, monitor, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to accomplish unit objectives.
  • Ability to understand mathematical calculations involving fractions, percentages, and decimals.
  • Ability to learn and operate a computerized point of sale system.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of asset and work management system software.
  • Knowledge of personal computers and basic office software, including MS Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of GIS software and geospatial concepts.
  • Proficiency in ESRI's GIS product suite.
  • Proficiency in SQL scripting and database administration.
  • Ability to integrate, analyze, and evaluate data to produce GIS-based decision support tools.
  • Skill in problem solving and analyzing data.
  • Skill in verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to work in a team by supporting others and contributing to team efforts.
  • Skill in effectively managing multiple projects.
  • Bachelors Degree in Geography, Computer Information Systems, Database Administration, or related field, and two (2) years GIS, SQL, Microsoft Office experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Design and create presentation-quality digital maps, dashboards, and other data visualization outputs using ESRI's GIS product suite.
  • Research and critically analyze data from various data repositories to support strategic departmental strategies and decision making.
  • Conduct geographical research and analysis.
  • Update complex enterprise spatial data layers using GIS.
  • Develop and document code to automate common GIS procedures.
  • Provide technical support to departmental staff in the use of GIS tools.
  • Continually update skills and knowledge to maintain a high level of proficiency in the latest GIS technologies.
  • Utilize common data analytical and presentation tools such as MS Office product suite and others.
  • Utilize and perform administrative functions within the department's OpenGov Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) tool.
