Performs analytical duties related to the development and operation of a Geographic Information System (GIS). Creates, updates, and maintains maps and databases. This position is supervised by the GIS Project Manager II in the Information Systems & Technology Solutions division.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or possession of a GED certificate; and Three years of experience in GIS hardware and software support.
  • OR An Associate's or higher degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Geography, Urban or Regional Planning, Mathematics, Computer Science or Management Information Systems; and One year of experience in GIS hardware and software support.
  • OR An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed in this job description.
  • Considerable knowledge of GIS computer database development and management.
  • Considerable knowledge of computerized cartographic/mapping hardware and software.
  • Considerable knowledge of computerized mapping symbols, standards, and terminology.
  • Skill in the use and operation of computers and peripheral equipment such as digitizers, plotters, and drafting instruments.
  • Ability to read and interpret aerial photographs, maps, deeds, and legal descriptions.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office

Responsibilities

  • Produces project-specific maps and performs recurring updates to existing maps, including corrections, generating outputs using various methods such as plotters, printers, and PDFs.
  • Analyzes GIS data based on specified criteria and generates reports and other outputs to support projects and decision-making processes.
  • Converts data from various sources for maintaining and updating in GIS databases, following established procedures, maintaining symbol set libraries, and preparing user documentation.
  • Develops automated tools, scripts, or macros to support data analysis and report generation from GIS databases.
  • Serves as liaison with other County departments and outside agencies to support effective GIS system applications and data sharing.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
