About The Position

The Pima County Information Technology Department is seeking a highly motivated, thorough, and disciplined individual with strong GIS knowledge and technical skills to serve in the position of GIS Analyst. The ideal candidate will have the ability to prioritize tasks, maintain attention to detail, and thrive in a team environment. This position will be involved in a wide variety of GIS projects, using Esri data solutions, models, and tools. Duties may include: Maintaining the county’s parcel base using Esri’s Parcel Fabric. Creating and updating streets within subdivisions using Esri's Linear Referencing System. Reviewing and updating core county layers involving: parcels, right of way, county property and county development projects. Writing and updating SOPs outlining data maintenance processes. Training staff and customers on GIS data and applications. Optimizing and maintaining geodatabases. Collaborating with teams to develop attribute rules, process automations, and migrating legacy code to modern languages such as Python and Arcade. Assisting customers with data requests. If the position allows for it, there is a possibility of part-time Telecommuting after 6 months of initial probation. This is an in-office position located in Tucson, AZ, and cannot be remote. The Information Technology Department is unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college, university or technical school in Geographic Information Systems, remote sensing, cartography, geography or related field as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment. (Relevant work experience and/or education from an accredited college, university or technical school may be substituted.)
  • OR: Two years of experience with Pima County as a Geographic Information Systems Technician.
  • Valid driver license is required at time of application.
  • Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum one (1) year experience working with Esri solutions (Parcel Fabric, Linear Referencing System (LRS), Indoors, Utility Network, etc.), workflows or data models.
  • Minimum one (1) year experience with ArcGIS Pro/ArcMap to perform data editing, geoprocessing, and analysis.
  • Minimum one (1) year experience managing data in a Geodatabase (Enterprise and/or File), including spatial data, attribute data, and non-spatial related data.
  • Minimum one (1) year experience programming data processing scripts, enterprise implementation, management of scheduled tasks, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with the following a plus - Python, Arcade, Jupyter Notebooks, Model Builder, FME, JavaScript, SQL, C#, .NET, or others as applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Performs geospatial data building, modeling, and analysis using advanced spatial data manipulation or cartographic procedures
  • Designs and coordinates the integration of GIS spatial databases with non-spatial enterprise business databases
  • Participates in developing and implementing quality control procedures for GIS processes, procedures, services, and products
  • Designs and prepare cartographic representations of GIS data using GIS applications, including web-based mapping systems.
  • Evaluates and makes recommendations to management for acquisition of GIS software, hardware, and peripheral equipment
  • Leads and/or trains ITD GIS technicians or related staff in the operations of GIS analytical procedures
  • Enters data into GIS databases, using techniques such as coordinate geometry, keyboard entry of tabular data, manual digitizing of maps, scanning or automatic conversion to vectors, or by converting other digital data
  • Compiles GIS data required for map preparation, including imagery, survey notes, records, reports, and original maps
  • Provides technical support to users or customers regarding the maintenance, development, or operation of GIS databases, applications and data collection devices
  • Identifies and compiles GIS database information to support the creation of maps and applications in response to requests
