About The Position

As a GIS Analyst with AMS, your office is wherever data meets the real world. Whether mapping utility corridors in urban centers or analyzing terrain in remote forests, you play a critical role in supporting safe and efficient utility operations. As an AMS GIS Analyst, you will transform spatial data into actionable insights that help keep the lights on and communities safe. Some of the most important characteristics of an AMS GIS Analyst are attention to detail, analytical thinking, and the ability to communicate complex spatial information clearly. You are accountable for advancing a culture of safety and excellence while providing quality and value to our customers and clients.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years of experience working with GIS software and databases, including ESRI Suite
  • Proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS)
  • Experience with spatial data formats and coordinating systems
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and show attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic programming/scripting knowledge (e.g., Python, SQL) is a plus
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel if needed

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s or associate’s degree in Geography, GIS, Environmental Science, or a related field
  • Experience in utility or environmental GIS applications
  • Familiarity with GPS data collection tools and mobile GIS apps
  • Certification such as GISP or Esri Technical Certification
  • Bi-Lingual (English/Spanish) a plus

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and interpret spatial data to support utility vegetation management (UVM) and infrastructure planning.
  • Create, maintain, and update GIS databases, maps, and dashboards.
  • Perform spatial analysis to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Integrate GPS-collected data from field teams into GIS systems.
  • Ensure data accuracy and consistency across platforms and projects.
  • Support QA/QC processes for spatial and field-collected data.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining automated workflows using GIS tools and scripting.
  • Generate reports, maps, spreadsheets, and dashboards to support field crews, arborists, and decision-makers.
  • Prepare visualizations to aid in regulatory compliance and strategic planning.
  • Conduct statistical and trend analysis to inform safety and operational improvements.
  • Respond to data inquiries and provide technical support to field teams.
  • Travel as needed for field data collection and coordination with field crews.
  • Collaborate with field personnel to ensure seamless data integration and operational alignment.
  • Lead companywide safety initiatives for contract crews across 48 states, involving extensive travel.
  • Develop, review, and implement safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct incident investigations using Tap Root methodology.
  • Perform risk and hazard assessments and safety compliance audits.
  • Deliver weekly safety messages and training sessions.
  • Train field employees in driver certification and conduct safety audits for utility foresters and hardware inspectors.
