About The Position

The GIS Analyst (PW) is under general supervision and provides technical GIS support for the City’s Public Works & Utilities department.  This position assists with GIS data collection, maintenance, spatial analysis, application development of maps and web-based GIS applications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Geosciences, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related; equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • 2 years of experience using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in a professional or academic setting.
  • Valid Colorado Driver’s License or ability to obtain within six months of hire.
  • Experience working within public works, utility, or public sector infrastructure environment
  • Proficiency with Esri ArcGIS software (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, or related applications)

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to Python, Java, or other programming languages
  • Familiarity with GPS data collection, GIS standards, terms, principles, and mapping.
  • Experience with web mapping, dashboards, or application development (ArcGIS Online, Experience Builder, or similar).
  • Familiarity with data management, analysis, and visualization.
  • Experience with open-source GIS tools (e.g., QGIS).
  • Experience integrating GIS with work order/asset management software.

Responsibilities

  • Update, edit, and maintain GIS datasets to ensure accuracy, consistency, and usability.
  • Research, compile, validate and integrate spatial and tabular data from internal and external sources.
  • Apply quality assurance  and quality control practices and document data  updates to maintain data integrity.
  • Produce maps, graphics, and spatial analysis products in support of Public Works projects and initiatives.
  • Provide GIS user support to Public Works staff and respond to data and mapping requests.
  • Participate in meetings and regular check-ins with the GIS Administrator.
  • Knowledge of GIS principles, cartography, coordinate systems, projections, and spatial data management, geoprocessing, and GIS theory.
  • Knowledge of relational databases related to GIS applications.
  • Knowledge and skill in designing and maintaining GIS data layers and associated databases.
  • Ability to read and interpret survey drawings and design plans.
  • Ability to translate data sources into usable information.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
