From earthquake and seismic engineering to the latest trenchless technology methods, Kleinfelder's Geotechnical Services support the planning, engineering, and construction of complex projects, and our specialists are leading experts in their fields. Step into Your New Role Kleinfelder is seeking a Geotechnical Engineering intern to join our team for Summer 2026. The ideal candidates will support project staff to gain understanding of the industry and contribute to a diverse range of engineering projects and services. The internship will primarily focus on geotechnical projects, however, the candidate may have opportunities gain experience working on environmental and construction management projects. The role will be based in our Rancho Cordova, CA office with flexible work hours to accommodate school coursework obligations. Under the direction of experienced engineers, you will gain exposure to lab procedures, design practices, and construction and subsurface investigation fieldwork.

Requirements

  • Graduated with Bachelor's degree from accredited program for civil engineering
  • Valid driver's license and clear driving record
  • Pursuing geotechnical engineering
  • Pursuing Engineering In-Training Certification
  • Following an offer, candidates will be required to satisfactorily complete employment reference checks, verification of professional licensure and/or educational credentials, a motor vehicle report (MVR), and a comprehensive background check.

Responsibilities

  • Under supervision and working with experienced staff, the successful candidates will perform laboratory testing, utility clearance for subsurface investigation, geotechnical data management, and support of quality control procedures.
  • Work in conjunction with project team to meet client needs
  • Follow project schedules and allotted hours by Project Manager
  • Follow internal and/or client procedures and standards
  • Attention to detail, strong problem-solving and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn and grow technical and project management skills
  • Ability to work as a team player, take direction, and interact well with others
  • Strong communication skills

  • The expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the California Pay Transparency Law.
  • Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.
  • Hourly range: 21.09 - 35.22
